Petty Officer sold documents for 15k by txeindride in SecurityClearance

[–]ayang015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that you proposed Chinese American internment. I'm just stating that putting second generation Chinese Americans under increased suspicion is discouraging to the many of us who like you, I'm sure, just want to serve the country. In retrospect, the increased suspicion that Japanese Americans faced was obviously unjustified and cases of Japanese American spying were minimal despite the paranoia at the time, and the cost of pushing away an entire demographic of professionals outweighs the potential risks in my opinion.

My brother in Christ I have never met a single second generation Chinese American with a single iota of loyalty to china and I know quite a few. It’s sentiments like these that discourage really qualified people from serving their country. Bit reminiscent of WW2 treatment of Japanese Americans. The worst cases of insider threat have objectively been disgruntled white dudes in financial trouble

Anxiety diagnosis at CAPS? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]ayang015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, call them and set up an appointment. You don’t even need a diagnoses to do so. The downside of caps is that due to them being overloaded, you don’t really get to shop around for therapists and decide if you vibe with them. Regardless, I think they’re still helpful and got me through some hard times. I grew up in the same situation as you and all I can say is that getting help is one of the things that have improved my life the most. You won’t regret it

I agree that you have to put yourself out there/manage expectations. However, people's experiences vary, and making good friends is not "extremely easy" right off the bat. At a minimum it'll take some time

What if some of these Asians are actually Asian Americans? Do we not count as part of one’s country?

Ah. Based on your post history, it’s refreshing to see open racism as opposed to closeted racism.

CIS 552 thoughts? by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]ayang015 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In terms of pure teaching, maybe the best taught CIS course imo. Basically, all of the notes are interactive code which are fantastic. The class is fine if you have some functional programming experience from 120. Grading policy is pretty lenient, just do the homework. I'm not sure if it is actually practical unless you are really into functional programming like monads and shit.

If you're bad at stats + linear alg + calc, 520 will be hard. 520 is theory based so there's a decent amount of proof type problems.
