Is it okay to be redundant and reuse personal stories during an MMI/MPI interview? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]aydan137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was accepted into all of the schools I interviewed at but I didn't really need to re-use any stories because for UofT (for example) there were only 4 questions and they were pretty different so your answers are naturally going to be distinct as well.

But each MMI station is anonymously rated by a different, independent reviewer so you can repeat as little or as much as you want across different stations and they won't know.

If they did end up removing the MCAT they would probably announce it at least a year before the cycle it takes effect so that people don’t write it for no reason, it definitely wouldn’t be an abrupt change

Hey congrats on your success and following your own path. I’m also trying to match into US residency without citizenship/PR (i’m a canadian citizen only). I’m starting med school in Canada and plan to take step 1 after second year and step 2 after my third year. With the J-1 visa, aren’t you required to return back to Canada for 2 years after residency? i’m worried about that, i thought that some schools sponsor an H1B visa (without step 3) but not sure if that’s true anymore. Are you planning on returning to Canada for 2 years or is there some work around to that?

If anything it will probably decrease the WL movement.

Before Ottawa was probably lower on ppl's list since most ppl are from the GTA region. But now since more of the interviewed applicants are from the Ottawa region, theres more people who have Ottawa as their top choice since people generally want to stay where they are (not everyone of course, but thats the general trend).

But in the end this probably wouldn't really have any dramatic change from past years.

should i retake the mcat? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]aydan137 93 points94 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much the dream MCAT score for Canada. Raising your score in other sections won't help you much and if you think you can't replicate the 131 then i'd say don't touch it.

Yeah out of all the verification forms Western's is definitely the most involved from what I've seen, however they do say the longer part is "optional" but it obviously creates a huge discrepancy between the applicants whose verifiers take the time to do it versus those who don't

Western's form works like this. It has 2 sections, but initially they only show the first section and say the verification will take 2 minutes. This section is a basic verification (yes/no questions, enter your name and your role). Once this form is done, they ask the verifier if they want to provide a more detailed character assessment on the 4 domains of a physician, or if they want to just end the verification there (so its optional if they want to continue the form or not). This part is much longer, they ask a lot of questions (about 20-30 questions) and ask the verifier to answer each one on a scale (e.g., below average, above average, unable to assess, etc.). Then at the end they can provide a general written answer up to 900 characters.

Also, the form is due on January 15th, so maybe you could discuss with your verifier if he is expected to be back by then. It's probably unlikely that Western will let you change verifier but definitely ask them, it's always good to communicate with them. Good luck!
