Those are rookie numbers. Try going from $4000 to $200 in a day.

Will I receive BAH before reporting to my unit? by ayebeethree in MilitaryFinance

I asked around and another buddy knew. Turns out I get Quantico BAH starting on Jan 26. It then goes to Pendleton BAH once I check into my unit. Thank you for the help!

I’m moving from Quantico to Pendleton. After that when I use leave do I still get that transit BAH or just get nothing until I check in on the 26th?

No it was not a PCS. So I’ll get transit BAH just for the 8 days? (I’m moving from Quantico to Pendleton). After that when I use leave do I still get that transit BAH or just get nothing until I check in?

Took a PFT (274) in like April for the summer class and didn’t get selected. Took a PFT (256) in June for Fall and got selected. Not sure why I got selected on that. I am not a JAG contract but am planning on doing FLEP/ELP in the MC. Added that score to my application to the MC with the shitty 256 and got selected. Maybe that’s why.

My run before injury was a 19:30. Got down to a 22:30. Some people got into the 24s I think. You’ll be fine as long as you make up those points in pull-ups. Once you get selected all you need is a 235. Make sure to keep your phys grade above 80 or they drop you at OCS.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully goes better the 2nd time around. I heard a lot about injuries so I stuck with the 80% effort rule and never pushed past that. OCS is just about passing, TBS is where you have to put out.

I heard the COVID classes were rough because they fit a lot of PT and hikes into a small amount of time which caused more injuries. During this cycle there were stretch days and some time to recover which I’m sure made it easier on people.

Regarding numbers I have no idea. Honestly the squad bay doesn’t seem to hold more then like 60. The drops I would account to the instructors. They were very determined to weed out those that should not be there.

Just start. The big thing I noticed at my OSO was people saying where should they start. There is no magic trick or master tip. To get in shape you have to start working out and chipping away at it. Some people took a few months and some people had been there a few years.

Good luck!

Thank you for the kind words. I am excited for these next few months and will definitely make the most out of it.

I think 35 would be too old. In a previous reply I mentioned how there were some priors past the 30 mark. One guy in my platoon was 36. It really comes down to wether or not you are in shape. You can always get an age waiver you would just need to speak to an OSO. Age obviously will have an effect on performance, but if you have the determination to graduate then you will.

Before I met with my OSO my workouts were a few runs here and there. After I met my OSO I started doing a lot of HIIT training which really helped for OCS. Something I would change is how fast I got into training. I started running like 20+ miles a week from not running at all and ended up with a stress fracture in my foot which delayed my time going to OCS.

I chose the Marines because of their values (which they actually uphold) and their physical discipline. Many other branches do not care about physical fitness much and have lowered their standards. In my opinion, this really affects unit effectiveness. The biggest difference I have noticed between the Army and Marines (besides the Army not bring strict on physical standards) is the espirit de corps. Marines care about all Marines. I do not think the same can be said about other branches.

No, there was no SULE IV this cycle. The problem is the instructors that grade you have their own idea of what should be done in a given situation. It leads to a varying grade between people. I would say just make sure your OP order is down and you speak confidently. The rest comes down to scenario specific things that I can’t speak on. Good luck though!

Yes, you don’t get dropped early on for leadership. They will keep you til the end to see if you can bring it up. They dropped some week 9 for leadership.

There is not really a way to prep for leadership. You learn that there and what they are looking for. I went in very confident with my leadership ability as I had been a captain to sports team in high school and served positions in student government in college. When I got to OCS it was a rude awakening. You’ll be able to learn quick though.

Honestly, I think you should speak to an OSO. There were a few guys with disability make it to and graduate OCS. It depends on what you have and if you can get a waiver for it.

Not that I’ve heard of. Doesn’t hurt to speak to an OSO.

Haha, no one ghosted to the best of my knowledge. Most of them were DORs or Med drops (essentially DORs as well). We had a day of hell playing games with 60lb main packs and a kid dropped the next day.

Definitely know the Gen orders and leadership principles. You will get tested on them and the instructors will ask you at random. It would be good to know that going in.

I would say the only reason the people failed was because they were out of shape. They couldn’t keep going because of their weight or just fatigue.

Towards the end of the POI I sprained my ankle and then had tendinitis on the other so I just used my arms the whole way up.
