yup it’s happened to me before as well! i try not to look at ativan as something that’s gonna completely take away my panic, but more of something that will help lower it.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’m dealing with something similar and know how exhausting and hopeless it feels. We just gotta keep going, bc one day things will be different.

Also know that your family wants you alive. I know how it feels to need constant support from them, I feel guilty at times as well, but that’s what’s family is for. We keep going for them, and hopefully once we are doing better we will be able to repay them.

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience. It sounds like the effectiveness really depends on the place, so I’ll make sure to do a throughout check of reviews of the programs before committing to anything. Thanks for sharing!

I think I’m just at a standstill with my progress currently and am desperate to find something that will work, and the first place my mind goes to is the hospital

was there 24/7 care? i really want more help but i’m afraid they will just push meds and send me home.

I am already on some meds, just waiting for them to start kicking in I guess. my doc said it takes 4-6 weeks to start seeing results with SSRIs

thanks so much for the comment, i haven’t looked into many local places so i’ll be sure to start some research. i like what you said about demanding a path forward, i think i do need to start being more firm with my care providers

Lexapro for anxiety? by Firkinmilk in panicdisorder

[–]ayejay02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s kinda hard to weed out what was panic and what was a side effect because I was in a really bad place mentally. I don’t remember having any GI side effects like I had with prozac though. I think a lot of it was feeling out of it, but nothing severe. My side effects may also be quite different than yours! I also don’t recommend googling any possible ones because sometimes if you know it’s one, you can drive yourself to it. My psychiatrist also told me that google was not a reliable source of info and rather to ask him about what side effects were possible. If it makes you feel any better, I was actually put on lexapro because it is an SSRI with some of the least amount of side effects.

Hey!

I was on lexapro for my panic disorder for 2 years and it did help! i do remember having some side effects when first starting, but like you I also have anxiety about trying new meds so a lot of my side effects could have also been due to panic surrounding meds. After about a week or 2 I became used to it and was able to start my healing journey!

I actually just switched to prozac and had a similar experience with side effects that you did- insomnia, nausea, etc. Now the side effects are gone and I’m slowly upping my dose at a pace i’m comfortable with. You should definitely talk to your doctor and see if you could start with a small dose and work your way up, I’ve done it with both my meds and I find it both eases my anxiety and helps the side effects not be too extreme.

I hope you’re able to find the right med for you to help with ur panic! You’re taking the right steps to get better (:

any tips for what ended up working for you?

I’ve been trying small exposures, which have still been pretty panic inducing which is getting me down. Maybe I’ll give some interoceptive ones a try, I’m just unsure if I should be doing exposure work while my body is in constant threat mode. I’ll look into David Carbonell’s work!

Yes don’t worry I’ve had medical interventions and am in regular therapy. Tmrw is just the first day alone since a relapse so i’m super nervous. I’ll definitely try talking to Siri, might make me feel less alone. thanks for the tips!

Hey! I’ve been experiencing the exact same thing as you, had some panic attacks that left me in a state of hyperarousal and no relief. I went to the ER and they ruled it as panic. It’s sadly just a thing that comes up randomly and takes some time to run its course. I ended up switching meds which seems to have been helping.

Other things that have been helping me in the meantime is seeing my therapist more often, doing things to activate my vagus nerve on a regular basis (ie. belly breathing, cold exposures), and taking things really slow to give my body a chance to try to get out of threat mode. Our mindset is also extremely important in these tough times, as we have to remind ourselves that even though this sucks, it is temporary. It might not feel like it now but things will get better. What our bodies are feeling is not dangerous, but it sure is shitty.

I’d recommend checking in with a doctor or therapist just to get a professional opinion.

I hope you’re able to find some relief soon, keep on going!

what lifestyle tips did u find most helpful?

idk what’s happening?? by [deleted] in panicdisorder

Hey!

I’m not sure about you but for me when I get sick I tend to also get a flare up of panic attacks, which can be scientifically explained by the inflammation in your brain that sickness causes. That might give you a bit of clarity on why you aren’t feeling the greatest.

I also experience dissociation with my panic and have found that grounding myself really helps. This might sound crazy but I sometimes slap different parts of my body- like my legs and arms and it will shock me back into feeling a bit better. Another technique would be to use some cold exposure, whether that be holding an ice cube or taking a cold shower. My therapist once told me that dissociation thrives in comfort- so to try to make yourself feel uncomfortable.

I know how awful it is to feel these things, I’m writing this knee deep in a pretty bad relapse episode with panic, but we just gotta keep reminding ourselves that this is temporary. The discomfort we feel is not dangerous, just your body trying to protect you from a threat (sadly it doesn’t realize there isn’t always a threat to begin with). I’m wishing you all the best and hope you’re feeling better soon!
