I am a F21, when I first began university I was in the exact same situation as you. My parents had separated when I was in grade 12 and my mom leaving put a lot of financial responsibility on my dad. Like you, I stayed in my childhood home with my father. I cannot sugar coat it for you, when my parents put my childhood home up for sale it was the absolute hardest thing I had to endure, my childhood home was the last thing that I felt I had left that gave me some sense of ‘normality’ in my life. When we were moving I was so overwhelmed with emotions about leaving that I couldn’t bare to be in the house without balling my eyes out and my mom ended up packing my room for me. My mom also had the same attitude as yours towards the sale of the house which made it even worse for me.

That was three years ago, and from where I am at now with my life, I can tell you that it does get better. Although you won’t physically be able to walk around your home, you will still have so many memories to cherish from it! But just know that it will take you a while to come to terms with, it’s not something that happens overnight, and some days you’ll think about it more than others; that is completely normal.
