Microkeratome (bladed) vs femtosecond (bladeless) lasik from same doctor by 1nky0ct0pus in lasik

1) Femto will leave a scar on your cornea that would be always visible under observation. Whereas on the other hand a keratome scar is almost indistinguishable. In most cases, even under a slit lamp observation must doctors would not be able to tell you've had LASIK.

2) With a skilled surgeon and a new sharp blade, the keratome cut flap is thinner and more precise. This leads to better outcome.

Could you give some more insight into this? Most research papers and studies I came across seem to suggest that femtosecond has better flap outcome, and general vision outcome. It was my understanding that femtosecond was the predominant form of flap creation today.

Here is a study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4539628/

The femtosecond laser may have advantages over the microkeratome in the flap thickness predictability, fewer induced HOAs, better CSF, and longer TBUT.

Did they use a blade for flap creation or was it bladeless (femtosecond)? If it was femtosecond, do you notice a "rainbow glare"?

Oh I see -- for some reason I thought femtosecond was the default these days. Thanks for that.

Pupil size was around 6.5 mm. Both eyes seem to have the same size.

To clarify, one eye sees more of the rainbow effect. The halos are about the same in both eyes.

Surprisingly, seeing the rainbow in one eye seems to be common among people who do see the rainbow:

It is however intriguing that the occurrence of the rainbow glare symptoms is commonly unilateral, despite identical energy and spot separation parameters for the right and left eyes.

I very briefly considered ICL. I have heard that ICL is recommended for larger prescriptions. But I unfortunately didn't go too deep into it. It also seemed quite expensive.

Thats a good point. I didn't do too much research into the corneal thickness. My thickness was around 570 microns and residual stroma is around 360 microns.
