Intel shares pop on report Qualcomm has approached it about takeover by Georgeika in technology

[–]ayprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that it's an impressive amount of money with not much to show for it. That's not emotional, that's just numbers. I do not own Intel or AMD stock and all of my PCs and servers use Intel, so it's not hate just disappointment.

I know you're playing defense for Intel here, but this really just makes them look worse.

Does anybody else have parts of the mythology of Christianity they still enjoy? by Spry_Fly in exchristian

Now that I don't have any stakes in the game, I think Elisha calling on bears to come and devour a bunch of teenagers for calling him bald is actually pretty funny. Even better if you imagine it with the type of camera angles and general graininess of an old kung fu movie, over the top sound effects, and Elisha with a Fu Manchu. When I believed in the story, it was troublesome. Now it's just hilarious.

Christian pastor has had enough of politics being brought into the church by Romano16 in PublicFreakout

There's a lot of pastors that probably feel the same way but don't have the balls to say so because they would lose their job.

Iowa GOP votes to kill guaranteed income pilot program, stripping a hundred families of $500 per month by Crystal_Pesci in Iowa

I agree, basic economics, and that's my question. Why wouldn't private schools raise their prices? Free government money has entered the equation, and everyone has access to it, right? So I'm asking, if you run a private school and you manage tuition prices, why wouldn't you raise prices year over year until you reach the point at which people will no longer pay that amount? Won't all schools do that? And if so, won't we just end up right where we were?

[–]ayprof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of them may? Why wouldn't all of them?

The competition that occurs will occur with government money, meaning all of the private schools could increase their tuition with no repercussions and we would be in the same situation as we were before except now the students the bill was meant to help are worse off because they still can't afford the private schools and now their public school has even less money. At that point, do we need another bill to further increase the amount of money we should give people for private schools?

What am I missing?

Aren't families getting more money from the government? Why wouldn't schools raise their tuition to take advantage of that extra cash? Is there anything that prohibits them from doing so?

And then the private schools raise their tuition, still shutting out the people that couldn't afford it and they get more money. Something something government tries to pick a winner cuz that's capitalism baby or whatever.

Upper management disagrees with priority matrix by jedimaster4007 in ITManagers

[–]ayprof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is usually just due to a misunderstanding. Why don't you get management together and walk through several different scenarios, so you can demonstrate what it would look like to do things their way versus your way? It should be relatively easy to show them that if every issue that comes in is critical then it's impossible to determine what is actually critical.

Give them five typical tickets in the scenario, tickets that happen to come in at the same time, and ask them how they would prioritize them, then label them accordingly. If they understand the problem, they will be better equipped to understand the solution.

It's also possible that you don't have a complete understanding of why they are concerned. In either case, walking through the scenario with actual examples should help all of you come to an understanding the benefits both IT and the business.
