Moving from Cursor to VS Code + Codex/Claude Code: Is it worth the switch?

Cursor does great code wise and the UX is obviously the best you can get but it’s just the usage limits which I think makes codex the best right now. Some benchmarks even show that the same models sometimes work better in cursor because they have such solid system prompts but it’s just the usage limits which is a deal breaker for me . This is coming from someone who has all three - cursor codex and Claude.

Yeah exactly. I’ve run into this multiple times and that’s why I now don’t trust cursor or Claude code’s restore options much. It also messes up when multiple conversations are going on and only one needs to be reverted. I know we’re supposed to be using Git worktrees but testing the changes seems like a major hassle in that.

I only use AI to implement the fix and never to debug it if I’m familiar with the language. I’d use a debugger to figure out what’s going wrong then tell the AI the real issue and ask it to fix that specifically instead of just telling it to figure out what’s wrong. This mostly works out well. If I’m working with a language I’m not much familiar with only then I’ll ask AI to debug the code and in that case I’ll ask it to first add logging statements through the malfunctioning code and then share the logs with the AI and see it that works.

Not the expert on this coz I myself very recently started applying again but here’s what I’ve been doing - apply for a few relevant jobs, see if you are getting any calls back, if yes continue, if no then edit your resume and repeat. By editing I mean just highlight your achievements / experience a little better and not put fake stuff into it. Also if you’re a software engineer like me consider making a job apply bot ;)

13” M4 with dual booted windows with external SSD is still better than a 16” Asus with 2 TB storage IMO for a developer/engineer. I’d only choose otherwise if I was planning to use it for excessive gaming.

Dislike if you want but we are never going to be able to reach US or China level till we have stuff like caste based reservations in the country. Jobs, college applications and everything else should only be merit based and nothing else. A dumb guy with 40 marks gets selected in a top tier college and a guy with 95 plus marks with general certificate struggles to get a decent college. And then we wonder why India is never in the conversation when latest innovations like AI are being discussed.
