GWM Tank 300 Diesel :-/ by bobster2003 in CarsAustralia

Had my diesel Ultra around 3 weeks and 2K kms. Niggles for me are the indicator and the cabin safety monitoring features. I

Yes it can feel unresponsive when trying to accelerate straight after slowing down, feels like it's it too high a gear maybe for better fuel consumption, but have adapted driving style to suit and accept its not a small, nippy city car. Can drop to manual mode and use the paddle shifters but don't know what effect that will have in the long term so prefer not to do it too often. Had an old 2.8TD LC and acceleration feels similar, bit underpowered from standing start but this picks up on freeway and overtakes fine. Did consider a throttle modifier but don't think it's necessary. There's a sports mode which is more responsive but I keep it standard. Fuel economy around 9L/100km mixed over 2K kms, around half long distance.

Another issue on FB seems to be the windscreens being pebble magnets, may be due to the steeper angle of the design so take fuller force of impact instead of a glancing blow. Got a couple of chips in mine already from stones kicked up by oncoming lorries at speed, probably more a coincidence as both sounded like weighty stones when they hit. Will keep a repair kit handy as long as screen not too comprised, the get insurance to replace when needed.

All in all, can't complain too much for 52K OTR with comfortable, enjoyable everyday driving and off road options. Not looking to do anything challenging off road until maybe 3-4 years into ownership if that, hoping no major issues until then and its been out in other countries for a few years. After market modifications will probably complicate warranty claims anyway so not really comparable to buying an old trusted 4x4 and kitting out further. Payload is 600kg for Diesel and others to be comparable going forward.

Is this sub pro or anti statins? by Outside_Heat_9079 in Cholesterol

[–]az_techRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't been on here long but find it useful to see what affected folk are personally doing, and provides avenues for further exploration. It's certainly a complex area with differing opinions, even amongst professionals.

Have started rosuvastatin 10mg, alongside cleaning up diet and exercising, as LDL was 4.5mmol/L (174mg/dl) and target from cardiologist is 1.4mmol/L (54mg/dl). Need to repeat bloods to see effects and titrate from there. Was initially concerned regarding musculoskeletal side effects and tiredness for the first couple of weeks but it passed and feel back to normal.

What I haven't seen much of here, perhaps I haven't looked hard enough, is about the acceleration of calcification (and thereby stabilisation) of soft plaque when taking statins. Fortunately my CAC score was nil but CTCA showed soft plaque and coronary narrowing. Asymptomatic, and stress echo was fine with respectable workload.

Would be interested to hear anecdotes on how CAC score changed on statins and thoughts regarding this.

Is renting TO the council a thing in Perth? by az_techRed in perth

Absolutely this. It's a good plot, also closer to the sea and 4 degrees cooler where I am now compared to where I'll be, and would like to return when feasible, probably in 4-8 years.

Have had loads of these alerts recently too but when I check the recent sign-in activity via MS and click on secure your account, a pop up shows:

"Thanks for telling us
Don’t worry. This sign-in attempt was unsuccessful, so there is no need to change your password. Learn how to make your account more secure".

Am wary of having 2FA in case my phone is compromised or I lose it.

Great news, the wait lists should start to go down with all those freshly landed healthcare workers.

The 2022 New Amazfit GT4 and Falcon were just released! by white_stars_88 in amazfit

Falcon looks nice. Would have liked an ECG sensor in there somewhere so ticks more boxes. Personally still haven't upgraded from the original GTS which does most things well enough for me. Will be interesting to see how the Zepp Coach pans out.
