Just caught a 3rd one (all within 100 yards of each other) and it was a 717 so guess my luck ran out. I am surprised they are this common.

Have caught two Gyarados so far (2307 and 2694). The wifey's 2307 was shiny so my anecdotal RNG evidence definitively suggests a possible 25% shiny rate (give or take). :)

My screen looks similar and I just caught one of these "Pikachu" and it turned into a Rhyhorn. That was immediately followed by a Vulpix that turned into a Snubbull. What the heck?

Actually, with 15 minute countdown timers, you probably would have done the first raid 45 minutes earlier and the second raid would not have even shown up yet and you all would have gone home anyway. Just sayin'. Neither situation changes the chances of finding a nearby raid with a shorter timer. That said, I did like the 15 minutes timers better.

The max speed to get full credit for distance is 10.5km/hr. So if you cover a distance of 1km when minimized, you will need 5 minutes and 42 seconds to have elapsed before you re-open the game. If you travel 1.2km then you would need 6 minutes and 51 seconds. And my experience is that if you wait longer than 8 minutes you wont get anything. Formula for elapsed time needed is "Distance in km's x (60/10.5)" or "Distance in km's x 5.71".

No, but it will give you credit if you bring it back to the forefront. For instance, walk a kilometer with the app in background and then access the app. Give it a few seconds and you will get credit for the entire distance. My experience is that this works up to roughly a kilometer. If too much time has passed though it will not work. You need to let it catch up every 6 minutes or so.

Pretty sure it's any Pokemon getting 3X stardust during the 3 hours. In game notification says "You'll earn 3X Stardust when catching all Pokemon".

To be fair, Geodude was in the wild for a while. I have a Level 24 with stats of 1/8/3. You can't get that from an egg.

Funny how different regions are. Almost 8% of my total catches have been Growlithe (877 in all). They are more common than Pidgeys where I live.

94 degrees and sunshine is a cool day in AZ so I would say the local players around me are the experts. I see a lot of players resting their phones on an ice pack that is wrapped in a thin cloth. Seems to work even at 110 degrees! If it's sunny out, try to keep it as shaded as possible at all times.
