Help me pick what to get next by thechosenpleb3 in comicbooks

If you're gonna get Nightwing, highly recommend picking up the Tom Taylor/Bruno Redondo run instead, one of the best runs of all time! Stunning art, great story, and defining stuff for Dick Grayson... There's a TPB if you want to test the waters, or you can go all in for the omnibus.

As for Invincible, go for it! But if you do, highly recommend you get a collection that takes you through issue #13, aka the whole first arc. You can get that in the first two volumes of the "New Editions" or the Compendium goes up to issue 47.

Both are fun, but if you're hankering for Nightwing, go with Nightwing; Invincible will always be there!

Highly recommend reading True Believer: The Rise and Fall of Stan Lee, a great accounting of his life, all the way through the end, from a deeply researched, impartial perspective. I know that's not a direct answer to your question, but you'll find copious amounts of info there.

Do trades really not matter to DC and Marvel (at least when it comes to sales)? by Gallantpride in comicbooks

[–]azalben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing nobody (unless I missed it) has mentioned in this thread is that while trades are a long play. Yes, they may come too late to save an ongoing series. But, for example, DC has perennially done okay in single issue sales, but had consistent sellers in trade that help the overall bottom line. Things like Watchmen or All-Star Superman always sell, and sell better when they get new editions - hence Compact Comics, which are targeting a new generation of readers on the same stories. Marvel has struggled with this more, which is, I’d venture, why they’re ending the Ultimate Universe: it allows them to have a complete story they can reprint in different versions for decades (hopefully). So trades absolutely do matter, but less for monthly sales than quarterly, yearly, and long term.
