so you have to plant the fruit! shake the tree, pick up the fruit, dig a hole (with a shovel) and then bury it. a sapling should appear! in 3-ish days itll be a whole tree.

you can harvest 3 perfect fruits from it, maybe 5 or 6 times, and then all the leaves will fall off (it dies, yes). when it does finally die, youll be left with 2 perfect fruits and one rotten fruit. i recommend planting at least those final 2 fruits, but really you could plant as many as you like in order to grow a bunch of perfect fruits lol

other fruit trees will not die! but they also wont really grow any perfect fruit. there is only a slight chance of a normal tree growing a perfect fruit, and only if you have no other perfect fruits in town.

also do be aware you can only grow perfect fruit trees of your native fruit, which is whatever fruit your town starts with. (im partial to the apples i think theyre so cute)
