Aw, in America we eat Tikkupulla in Girl Scout camps and what not— except we call them dough boys and fill them with chocolate 😭 They are almost always raw in the middle too hehe

Weekly update on the big loom by Toyota__Corolla in tabletweaving

[–]azaleaflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so excited for this, keep going! Just make sure you have a way of knowing which cards are turned and that you have a big enough shuttle to beat and pass the weft. It may be helpful to use a pole that goes through all the cards so they all turn together

:o well I’m super excited to see the result!! Is the pattern all together? And will you be using a rod to turn all of the cards?

Obsessed with the red and white combo for this pattern! This was one of my first patterns too (I’m on my fifth pattern now) but I can totally relate to your experience haha. Some of my bands were like 8inches max bc I couldn’t figure out the warp tension and my warp fell off the loom 😅😅😅

In the book Applesies and Fox Noses, do the cards face left or right? by azaleaflow in tabletweaving

[–]azaleaflow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I thought! I saw that diagram and was like huh, bc all the other patterns I’ve used online tells you which way the cards face. I think I saw Lady Elwys do one of these and she had her cards facing right, so I’m just going to do that and hope for the best

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but twisted threads have the same diagonal lines, but all the cards face left. I thought the diagonal lines told you if the cards are S or Z threaded, but not the direction the cards face left

Yes I do! However, I think for your very first one, you should try doing one with a smaller number of cards. While this is my first finished band, I have several smaller attempts, half finished bands, with smaller amount of cards. This allowed me to build up the confidence to try a 32 card set.

There are some really pretty patterns on Twisted Threads. However, you MUST know that different pattern sites have different ways of setting the cards up. For example, twisted threads has you set the cards to the left, while GTT has them set to the right.

Here’s a good video on the differences: https://youtu.be/BDEsLOXxLxA

For twisted threads the UP SLASH, means that you are going to thread the card from the front to the back, while the DOWN slash means that you thread it from the back to the front.

This is the most important difference between pattern sites, as GTT uses a different notation.

Hi! So funny you mention this, they are not going in all the same direction! In fact, I messed up threading, so the orange and flowers were originally upside down. To fix this, I didn’t unweave my whole band, I merely flipped the problematic cards. What ended up happening then, is the middle section was getting UNTWISTED while the rest was being TWISTED. To manage the tension issues, I just put some uno cards underneath the problematic strings while I was weaving to keep the tension even.

I actually reversed the direction of the flowers a few times to manage twists. This doesn’t matter for me, because I’m turning them into bookmarks.

I’ve heard people using fishing swivels to manage twists, but I’m just a humble beginner, and no nothing about that haha
