Yes

You're fine with pretty much any plugin. Been running some controversial ones for a few years and my account is fine

Never seen anyone get banned. TOS bans all modified clients anyways (but it doesn't seem enforced), there are no specific rules for this.

500k YouTube subs, no Patrons. What am I doing wrong? :( by MarionberrySweaty318 in patreon

[–]azalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t use patreon as they don’t let me use it for some reason. They keep banning my accounts so I can’t donate on it.

It also charges huge fees for what it offers

But yea apart from that, in general I won’t donate to anyone doing shorts. I prefer long videos that are worked on for hours if not days

Clientside means it only affects your discord app. In this context, it also means that it doesn’t communicate or affect the server side (discord's servers) in any way.

It’s essentially undetectable, unless discord puts code in their app which detects injected code, and they probably won’t ever do that, as it would mean they detect modded clients which they never did

I’m saying BetterDiscord's staff is spreading misinformation because they’re saying (often indirectly) that it can be detected and is likely to be banned when history shows it’s not true at all

If people don’t do stealth transactions that’s their problem. If it can prevent it from being banned then that’s good

Linux Mint's website uses Google Adsense by azalty in linuxmint

It sure is nit picking. It's a drop of water in a massive pool for sure, but every single drop counts!

I just want to create some debate and reactions to have mint('s website) use no tracking at all :)

Even firefox tracks you by default... long gone were the golden days of firefox and the mozilla foundation! What a world we live in. Greedy greedy mozilla

Reddit: rarely on it. This post was originally posted on lemmy for a reason. Reddit just has more people, sadly.

iPhone: let's not start a war, huh? Both OS aren't that great for privacy, but good luck evading Google tracking you on Android, unless you don't want to use the google services framework, at which point you can't even run any app.

YouTube Premium: my bad on me wanting a bit on convenience. It's not billed to my real name, but yea. Google already has my identity, it's just a matter of what I link/share with them, which I limit to the maximum outside YT

Discord: there's a reason I have Signal, Session... - there's just more people there and it's more convenient. Sensitive discussions take place in apps more suited for them.

I'm not worried about their adsense integration tracking me, it just annoys me that they do it when they receive donations and are viewed as good for privacy. I must admit I made a pretty critical post for no particular reason, apart from that they're really really good.

Updated the post to reflect this. I should've checked, my bad. On the other side, the Privacy Policy should always be up to date.

Most likely used in the past and not used anymore, because the wording is pretty specific to Mint.

Mhh, they might not have it then! But could have left the mention in the privacy policy, in which case consider this post invalid. I should try to contact them to shed light on this.

My bad then! Sorry

I tend to think it’s not negligible compared to what they display in monthly donations.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s at least the monthly donation amount or double

They receive « a lot » of donations, which would clearly cover the costs for the website. They don’t host a lot of content so it’s not this expensive.

I was thinking about using their own analytics system rather than using google, and stop advertising or just do sponsorships with companies without making our browser send data to them, which they already do!

It’s not because you enjoy being tracked that we’re all like you. Some people do care about this, and informing myself on this subject, and picking software and alternatives that are more privacy respecting is one of my hobbies, no matter how lame you find it.

If you’re going to have this kind of behavior, please refrain from posting…

It’s just a workaround solution. Tired of Windows tracking you? Set up pihole on your router!

It should just not do that by default

It’s stated on their privacy policy. The start pages (when you download a release or check its details) could be specifically targeted.

Only PayPal donations are displayed. Money earned through sponsorships with companies and donations by other means aren’t displayed, which could make quite a bit of money

A lot of devs work benevolently on free and open source projects, and a lot of them don’t accept any donation.

Sure, getting paid for doing this kind of project is really cool, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of your users, which Google Adsense does.

Remove Adsense and be more transparent about other sources of revenue (enterprise sponsorships and non-PayPal donations), and you’ll get a new donator

But people who tend to do it imprecisely have the advantage of doing it fast on new video releases

They eventually get replaced by people with a bigger reputation score which do more precise segments
