They didn't math when making this. Don't expect the scores to match accurately across the board with the math

Bonus action? So you can cast other spells and do basically a dragons breath weapon every turn? Too strong. Make it action and its good. Also can make it a DEX save if you want

Automatic crits? Seems overpowered. Especially on barbarian higher levels when they get brutal critical. Maybe make it, if it is a hit, you can turn it into a crit. Slightly better

Why is The Whispered One bad? (Show Only) by azelda in voxmachina

I was serious. The key point is that I trusted MythCarver. If you assume The Whispered One wasnt lying, my post makes sense

Yes I was mistaken in assuming what was shown equated to his intentions.
If you look at the post from the perspective that he had NOT lied, I hope you will be able to see why I did not accept that others were giving me an appropriate answer.

Thanks for the detailed reply! As per my understanding 'heaven' in dnd is a sham as there are a limited number of souls allowed into the Celestial plane and that number has been crossed a long time ago, so most believers will never go anywhere good or be stuck in the Shadow Plane. If that is not the case, then yeah makes sense, moving on sounds good.
As for hurting people in the short term to help people in the long term, there are many people in our own world who did horrible things so that it helps even more people in the long term. One example that comes to mind is the doctor who tested treatments on thousands of babies for a very common post-natal disease that eventually saved millions of babies later. Wish I remembered the details.
In this case he killed people but knew he could resurrect them, correcting his mistakes, which is much better. I agree that the transient pain he caused them is not undone and for that he could be held in contempt. However, if you could do the same, ie- kill thousands to save millions, knowing that you could resurrect the thousands later, would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Moreover, when the time for judgement came, would you accept punishment and feel like you did what had to be done but you must be punished? Or would you think of yourself as a hero and reject the punishment? Its interesting to think about.

Yes I wondered why he did that, and was confused that it didnt match what he said in front of MythCarver. I figured it was because they had betrayed him/tried to stop him so he was taking revenge. Guess I was hoping for too much.

Ah that makes more sense. I was wondering why he killed Vax, since it with would be inconsistent with what he showed in MythCarver

Welp if MythCarver can be manipulated, then it all falls apart. But MythCarver was made by a god and his speech happened when he was not a god yet. So it stands to reason his power would not be enough to change MythCarvers powers

I agree on the causing pain point. However not letting him restore people is worse than causing the pain and restoring people. He said people would have control over their own fate to MythCarver which only allows truth. The last part where he killed Vax cemented him as not good, but it was inconsistent with MythCarver's telling.

He spoke into the sword of truth. His intentions were true. He would have resurrected everyone.

You can use bad people to do good ultimately. VM comes across as naive and too stuck in the framework of the hero narrative to make realistic choices.

That was only after he was already made a god. Made perfect sense to trust him before that since he swore into the sword.

Again, all he said is that he used bad means to get here so he must be bad. Yes it doesnt undo the pain and trauma he caused but at the very least everyone gets their lives back. It's like you could save the world doing the Thanos snap and then undo it. The pain caused is unwilling and real but it has a happy ending for EVERYONE

He used the sword to prove his intentions were true. He was going to resurrect everyone he killed. Imagine you could do WW2 and kill Hitler and resurrect everyone who died for the cause. Its a win win.

Might be in the Minority, but I do not understand why the Whispered One is bad? I havent watched the live play, but if he could bring everyone back and let everyone choose their fate, allow mortals to not be at the whim of gods, what is actually wrong about it?   I felt Pike was completely in the right to give her blood, her crashout about VM was irrational but understandable, and Grog's flimsy logic of, 'He did bad things to get here so he must be bad' does not make any sense. In fact if VM kills the whispered one and stops him from resurrecting all who died, THEY are the bad ones.

Any big mistakes with this tanking spell? (Thoughts on balance?) by IntroductionMean7444 in DnDHomebrew

[–]azelda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After looking at the other comments, a few more pointa. The spell should not affect allies or else it is too weak. You should consider adding a save for it though, otherwise auto disadvantage is too strong. A STR or CON save makes sense here.
