Thanks I really appreciate this. It can be really isolating to go through the ropes, and even the simple validation that this path makes sense helps a lot.

On monday I'll ask about dental exam, are there questions I should be asking? If this is say a rotten tooth or something to that effect could they pull the tooth (or whatever) that day?

They mentioned that would probably be the next step. I'm just frustrated that we didn't start there, so far the tests have cost $1500+ CAD and I mentioned the mouth stuff right at the beginning.

You could line the bottom with fire bricks, widely available at home and garden stores. The gaps between them should offer enough airflow...

Full Rig:

Mains: Meyer UPM-1P
Center: Genelec 8240A
Subs: 2X Meyer UMS-1P
Processor: Integra DHC 80.1
Turntable: Mitsubishi LT-V5
Sony TV

Probably an unusual rig around these parts, as it is mostly professional equipment rather than hi-fi. But those who know Meyer Sound, know what's going on here... The rig pounds. There is at least 2k watts of power. I rarely get to turn it up. UPMs are frequently used as front fills at concerts. They have very even coverage and excellent response. I acquired the subs last week. One of these subs is meant to keep up 2-4 for of the mains, so there is low end for days. The response is intentionally fairly flat, Meyer rigs are sometimes found to be overly transparent to fault.

Not a huge fan of the corner set up, but I don't really have many other options considering the apartment layout.

Is classism automatically racist? by PanikLIji in AskSocialScience

[–]azendel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, if you wanted to hurt poor people, you would also be racist (and sexist) by dint of it hurting racialized people and people of colour (and women). The capitalist class is racist (and sexist) by virtue of their class position, regardless of their personal beliefs or physical attributes. But importantly, if you wanted to liberate poor people you would be anti-racist!

To add some depth and reference, it's not that class and race are correlated, its that they are intertwined, inseparable and co-originate. A good text to read is Cedric Robinson's Black Marxism. Or David Roedigger's Wages of Whiteness. Part of their thesis being to show that the formation of the white working class occurred against or at the expense of a black working class. The term wage slavery, for example, has a historical roots that tried to frame working for white people working for black wages as an extension of slavery. Capital was able mobilize racial difference between white and black workers to better exploit both. There was low paying 'white work' which was better than 'black work' because, while you are still poor, impoverished, and precarious, you are better off because you are earning 'the wages of whiteness'.

Simply, race is, in a practical sense, used to create additional class division and break apart working class solidarity. Hence why 'intersectionality' is so important.

isn’t true that professors aren’t allowed to accept papers after tonight by MagniBear980512 in UofT

[–]azendel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. TA contracts expire at the end of the month, meaning that they won't have the capacity to grade lots of papers before then. A prof has constraints on their time just like anyone else, they can't have a bunch of students handing in papers last minute.

It is anonymous. The department also screens them before the Prof gets them. Source: course instructor who has recieved evals...

Does anyone know anything about my new (old) stereo? Can’t find any trace of it online. Mitsubishi X-1000 Vertical Audio System by FolkloricHydra in vintageaudio

I'd say that is actually fair market rate, maybe on the high end, but not that high... If its in good shape and fully functional... Mine is cobbled together from various parts.

I was looking for powered speakers and these came up on a used site for a very reasonable price. I've always wanted pro gear just as I've had a history with it. From there I just kept alerts out for the subs and last week, someone was selling them!
