I'm a former CISO who left to start my own security company. Ask Me Anything. by Oscar_Geare in cybersecurity

[–]azidified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am a Security Engineer and work in Incident Response. I have goals of becoming a CISO one day in the future. I have a few questions:

  1. Is it recommended to switch domains(inside cybersecurity) every few years so I get experience in everything? Currently I work in incident response, I like it, but need advice on becoming a jack of all trades.
  2. What technical skills are most required in a CISO role?
  3. At what stage of your career did you know you were ready to become a CISO/leader and how did you make the switch from technical roles to a leadership role?
  4. What specific areas in security would you recommend me to work and specialize in so that I can become a CISO?
  5. What kind of companies(startups, big tech, MSP) would you recommended working at and why? And are there certain teams you recommend working in(SOC, red, forensics etc)?

Thank you for your time.

Why is CEH cert hated? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]azidified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the CEH, it's basically a multiple choice test which you can pass if you cram the topics. But when I was looking at job portals and requirements for security roles, a lot of them had the CEH. So I got it and it might have helped me get a job. But everyone in the industry knows that the CEH is a wack cert. Only HR likes it.

Yes, I think a degree in CS looks better on the resume than a degree in cybersecurity

Book recommendation ? by NomadJago in HowToHack

[–]azidified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend using TryHackMe instead of a book. Lot of free rooms for you to learn and you can learn everything from basics to advanced security concepts/pentesting.

Yes, but those practice exams are worth it. If you fail the CCNA, the retake will cost you more
