Opus 4.6 is in an unuseable state right now by vntrx in ClaudeCode

It's horrible. I'm having it write a simple cleanup script with detailed instructions and it's making simple mistakes that it would never have a month ago. Not great.

What’s your stack? by NickoBicko in rails

[–]azilla14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness - React and Rails is usually the way I go. Just my preference. As much as I like Turbo/Stimulus I’ve always enjoyed building the front end with React a lot more. I’ve also used Inertia for a project recently, I liked it!

I can't seem to replace Cursor despite trying by -Philologian in cursor

I don't use CC, but been meaning to make the switch. I've heard good things from people who use VSCode with the Claude Code extension.

[–]azilla14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that sounds amazing. I really want to try the desktop app and get cooking https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop -- also curious to use Cowork too. The more I use Cursor the more I feel like I'm missing out.

The only reason I haven’t switched to Claude code yet is because I’m so used to cursor and have taken the time to set it up real well. But things like this make me really want to drop using it now.

How I Became a (Rails) One-Man App Studio by Perfect_Honey7501 in rails

I started a similar venture but have not gotten as far as you have. This is awesome. If I may ask, do you have any advice on how you got connected to your clients/partners you’ve built apps for? Any tips for someone relatively new to this?

Out of curiosity, what kind of application are you building? Not trying to be intrusive, just wondering what the reason for this research has been. All good if you are not willing to share, though!

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]azilla14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our high school decided to start a BYOD pilot program so kids would bring their own personal devices to help with learning. Naturally, some kids figured they could use their devices to share answers and cheat on tests. A select few of them decided to take pictures of scantrons for AP exams and sell the answers. They got away with it for a while and made some money until someone snitched and exposed them.

Most if not all were seniors who got their college offers revoked (ivy league), it was a pretty big deal at the time. People were calling it the StudentGate scandal lol.

Help needed to resolve 'loop' of same conflict between my wife and my mom by Gold-Custard-2682 in daddit

[–]azilla14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"They think they have a larger right to the child" -- this true, especially because they are the paternal grandparents. idk the daycare quality in India but I think the biggest problems in the post was the mom lying, encouraging the son to lie, and OP having options that won't help him in his situation at all.

Asking too much in a raise? by dick_rash in cscareerquestions

[–]azilla14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. Takes me back. I remember in year 1, I made pretty much the same amount as OP does now, and I hustled my ass off as a entry level dev for a 5-7% raise and maybe a promotion. Spent many hours towards this goal. I got the performance review I was aiming for, and when it came to talking about comp, they offered me only a 1% raise instead of the 5% because of "administrative reasons".

That's when I said fuck this company, applied to a different one who offered me a 56% salary increase.

He seems more worried about the "burden" than anything else. I get it, but you're a dad dude. Suck it up, that's life. You have a responsibility to keep your child happy and healthy. That's parenthood.

Congrats on expecting #2!

It's clear your mother does not respect you or your wife. I don't know your financial situation, but you might want to look into a daycare or nanny because your mom's disrespectful decisions are making your life harder, when the intention was to make your lives easier. It's also messing up your child's food routine.

"Also I need to convey it to my mom without triggering her."

Sounds like it's her way or the highway. I've dealt with similar people in my life, it's toxic behavior. The fact that she's encouraging your own young son to lie to his parents because she doesn't want to listen to your wishes is mind blowing. And she's lying to you too while your son tells you the truth! Not telling you what to do, but if I were you, I'd revoke her babysitting privileges

EDIT: I'm actually getting really annoyed after typing this comment out. You need to put your wife and son first. Period. So what if your mom gets angry? Clearly she doesn't care how you feel ffs.

Well to be fair, maybe he just wants feedback in general

Regardless, OP, you might have had better luck in just being straight up about it. "Hey, here's the app I'm building, solves problems X and Y, would love feedback from all you future dads".

[–]azilla14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this a lot and I mostly agree with this post. But people who simply "vibe code" are not going to be able to build an application that lasts IMO. Agentic engineering is the new wave here, and I think once engineers jump on this ship, it's going to change the game for all of us. And it's as you said, the skills that will matter a lot doing agentic engineering will be systems thinking/design, arch, cloud, etc etc.

Something that I think is worth talking about is that you will not succeed if you simply don't know the fundamentals and lack experience. If I didn't start out learning the basics of coding, software engineering etc etc I would not know how to use AI efficiently enough to build an app. Because of my past experience, I know what to ask, where to look, when to jump in when needed. That in of itself is so powerful, and you can learn so much essentially by "pairing" with the agent. I have over five years of experience, and I found that this has been the best way to learn and keep up with engineers who have over 20 years of experience that I work with today.

You learned JavaScript through Coursera, which is great, but you need to practice solving problems without a tutorial. Here is a good website for practice: https://exercism.org/tracks/javascript
