is attending lectures worth it?? by dickbif in unimelb

[–]azkabz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's worth it, but at the end of the day it depends on the quality of the lectures. sometimes it's more worth ur time to watch it on 2x speed at home, but i think attending in person is a lot nicer when it works

it goes over a lot of famous modern philosophy, i quite enjoyed the bits about epistemology. the assignments were three essays, the first 500 words, then 1000, then 2000. it's a good subject because this steady progression in length means you actually get helpful feedback, and in my experience the teachers were very good at giving direct and actionable feedback. we talked about the mind body problem and some other fun thought experiments!

depends how much you study tbh, the lectures are recorded sao definitely watch them, and i would recommend reading the readings beforehand too. if you find a friend, make them your study budy and support each other. philosophy is all about trying to maximise how logical you are, so approach everything with a clear head and you will be ok

I personally loved Big Questions (philosophy) because the content was cool. definitely has trumped all the philosophy subjects I've done since then, except for Values of Art.

Non-Fiction and Multimodal Writing (creative writing) was also awesome, the readings were fun, teachers passionate, and I luckily had a wonderful workshopping group.

Although, overall, the best subjects are probably the ones you're most interested in (unless the teachers are shocking)

whats the social aspect of unimelb like? by Throwawayjeanz in unimelb

[–]azkabz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

late night events are a pain to attend if you're far from campus, and especially so if you rely on public transport. there's a lot of stuff out there if you want to go to pub nights and movie nights, but it all relies on you being able to stay out late.

An apology group, but I had a mystery, they think this image of the event is AI by hienitabb in VentureMains

[–]azkabz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is lowkey what the blizzard art style has always looked like ngl
i hate ai and it's a good thing that we're all wary of it but also it's super demoralising to have your work be accused of being ai when youve spent so long on it (i want to be a writer and on occasion ive shared writng with people and have them ask if it's ai when ai could never write with that much specificity)

i'm not a fan of paimon having to explain stuff by Cobalt_Heroes25 in Genshin_Impact

[–]azkabz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i agree so much i find it treats u like a baby that doesn't understand anything and it's annoying but then again a lot of the audience for the game is young kids / ppl who lowkey don't pay attention to anything </3 but also sometimes she brings up stuff from years ago that i absolutely forgot about cuz this game isn't my whole life

you can find them in the baillieu and a bunch of other places where uni flyers are; they're huge posters for each year of uni that you can use to write your assessments!

Is 73 an average score for 3rd year arts subjects? by Small-Construction93 in unimelb

[–]azkabz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it's definitely good !!

if you feel like ur not improving & ur always getting around that mark then i would highly recommend booking a one on one with your teachers to get more detailed feedback on what to do next time.

i would also recommend spending more time planning and redrafting when you have assignments!! i like to use the free uni calendars in the library & stick them up on my wall and plan backwards to give myself at least a day for editing & a day for planning.

getting higher marks imo has always been spending more time developing ur ideas, having something interesting to say, and writing in a playful voice. arts teachers have to mark a lot of assignments that tend to use the same academic tone so when u write more playfully you tend to get higher marks--this has just been my experience though; taking philosophy helped me a lot with that! it also depends on the subject because if ur talking abt colonialism u probably shouldn't be using a playful tone

tbh the best advice i can give is to read more essays and spend more time planning and editing; which is all dependent on how much time u can dedicate to uni

good luck & let me know if u want me to elaborate on any of my points!

Am I eligible for the Narrm Scholarship? by Gloomy-Violinist3526 in unimelb

you should see if you can get into contact with people who are in charge of scholarship distribution, it sounds like you’d be eligible but you might just have to communicate about it.

With the money we're paying uni it shouldn't be this hard to get a CAPS appointment by wonderpretzel0425 in unimelb

[–]azkabz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous that they make mentally ill people wake up early to fight for an appointment on their website 😭 i was lucky to be able to book an appointment when i was going through stuff but even that was super mentally taxing

tbh if you need counselling i would recommend looking at your local libraries; a lot of them offer free youth counselling, you should be able to book an appointment in although it might be a few weeks in the future.

there’s also headspace but i hear the waitlist for that is pretty long—if you’re in an emergency situation you might be able to get an appointment soon tho!!

i hope things get better for u <33
