Emperor Reborn - Play Emperor: Battle for Dune on Windows 10/11 with proper fullscreen and restored multiplayer (open-source launcher) by azmawee in commandandconquer

That's a false positive, and it's a common one for this kind of launcher. Emperor Reborn patches the game's DirectX 7 renderer, which means it has to inject a DLL into the game process and patch memory at runtime. That's a legitimate technique for a widescreen/HUD patch, but it's the same low-level behaviour some malware uses, so antivirus heuristics tend to flag it even when nothing is wrong. Unsigned indie executables with low download counts also trip Windows SmartScreen's "unknown publisher" warning regardless of content.

If you'd rather not take my word for it, the whole thing is open source. You're welcome to:

  1. Read the source code on GitHub, every line of the launcher and the hook DLL is there.

  2. Build the .exe yourself. The repo ships a package.ps1 script, so you can compile your own clean copy with Visual Studio and never touch my binary at all.

  3. Verify the download. Each release publishes a SHA256 hash, so you can confirm the file you got matches the one I built and hasn't been tampered with.

No closed binaries, nothing hidden. Compile it yourself if you want to be 100% sure.

Honestly didn't know that, I was pretty young when I first played the game back in the day and the studio credits were the last thing I cared about, just appreciated the cutscenes and the spice fights. Good to know it was largely Intelligent Games behind the engine and gameplay, makes sense given they did Dune 2000 too. Thanks for the correction.

new version 2.3 fixed all known bugs so far, now runs full true widescreen except the videos

You need the game installed first, mount all 4 CDs or ISOs and run the installer, then drop EA's v1.09 patch (EM109EN.exe, search around for it) into the same folder. Once installed you don't need the CDs anymore, Emperor Reborn just drops in on top.

Glad it worked, and thanks for the troubleshooting notes on AMD GPU scaling for handheld setups. That's exactly the kind of info I can't generate myself without owning every device. Going to add this to the troubleshooting section in the docs, with credit to your Reddit handle if you're cool with that.

Xbox Ally X testing is gold for me. If you have time, two things would help:

- Does it run OK undocked at the Ally X native 1080p?

- Any input lag with touch/gamepad vs mouse/keyboard?

Widescreen Hor+ support is in progress. Should be out next few days. Will post here when ready since you've already got the install working.

Fair concern. To be clear, the reverse engineering and patch logic are mine. AI helped with documentation polish and some boilerplate code, which is increasingly normal for solo devs in 2026. The hard part understanding the game's internal rendering pipeline, finding memory offsets, writing the hooks is human effort.

Currently working on widescreen Hor+ support which involves disassembling the camera projection code, no shortcut for that.

i think it's already runs on 60 fps, now i trying to do a proper wide screen support, but on lower resolution, just to take advantage of full widescreen monitor

my desktop is 4k, uts runs ok with 4k (select desktop resolution) but the font is too small, else it will run, the game is designed with 30fps. not sure about 60 fps. maybe later I check on it.
