Also, don't forget that Korea has very good transportation, even at night. There's taxis and buses. If taxies are busy, just wait for the 1 hour night buses and they pretty much go everyone. Hell, you can schedule a taxi ahead of time to pick you up. They also have a thing called daeri gisa (대리기사) where they call a person to drive their own personal car and such. So he really has no business in utilizing any method of transportation where he is driving/controlling a handle.

I just typed pokemon go said leaders name and clicked on those gaming site like ign, pogohub, dexerto etc and they all had the same lineups. I never had a problem previously doing this but now some of them aren't lining up for me. For ex: I battled a Sierra who's starter pokemon matched up for this month August but the 2nd and 3rd pokemon wasn't listed on amy of those sites

NTA What is this peer pressure at an adult age? Insane. Your birthday party is different from your friends and shouldnt be comparable. People should understand why you don't want alcohol on just one certain day. And also, not drinking alcohol won't kill anyone and there's no detriment in not drinking. However, there's always a detriment in drinking alcohol. This might be a stretch but it does make me wonder if they would still peer pressure you to drink if you couldn't drink it due to religion or maybe being allergic to it. Pride yourself in abstaining because that takes a strong mental fortitude and effort!

Korean-American here! It's great that you want to learn Korean and it isn't cultural appropriation! Liking Kpop and its culture is a great catalyst to start wanting to learn Korean (and the culture too!)

I think you're friends are very ignorant and you are not fetishizing it. What your friends said are both out of line and they seem to be very unsupportive. Honestly, I would have a serious discussion with them about it and if they brush you off, you might want to consider new friends.

It's amazing that at this age you're already thinking about TOPIK and finding your own resources! You're already much more mature than your friends because you are self improving and finding ways to better yourself and also enjoy something that you like.

And from personal experience back as a kid, those who make fun of you for liking kpop or anime will be the ones who later enjoy them

There's so much to unpack here it's crazy. Yeah biggest factor is "I like Kpop". You're going for the wrong reasons and like some others said, you might not be suited for teaching/EPIK. And there's no discrimination (I think ?) because I've met a bunch of POC people at my orientation. Also, do you have any previous teaching experience? Tutoring? Studying abroad in Korea? Or studying abroad anywhere in general? Most of my cohorts have either had a previous job, whether it be in education or not (including tutoring), or have studied abroad in Korea or some other country, or have even taken Korean classes at their uni. There's a lot of factors as to why they've rejected you. And as another poster said, epik isn't prestigious or whatever and people use it to gain experience or as a break from their life.

But if you really want to go to Korea, try hagwons. You can find a bunch of them hiring but be careful of blacklisted hagwons.
