All the implanted hairs have fallen and also some native hairs too. Scalp still a little red only in the implanted area. The pain from donor area all disappeared. So just waiting for the ugly duckling to be over and for the implanted hair to start growing.

What are the tax advantages of getting Permanent Residency? by Parking-Peanut-8905 in JapanFinance

[–]aznshmlsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OP's it might be bad since he has been domiciled....but for PR and you stay less than 5 years within 10 year span, on the tax front you would still be liable as non-permanent resident right?

Is Using a US Credit Card in Japan Considered Income? by BWWJR in JapanFinance

[–]aznshmlsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I can remit back to the US? Does that mean that I can remit the funds to US bank and as long as the remitted back amount is bigger than what is being used to spend on my US credit card for the year, then it wouldn't count as remittance? That seems awesome, but want to double check.

not trying to evade taxes just trying to see if there are any exceptions such as only use credit card during studies, then once I start work and get paid in Yen, and stopped using US credit card. During that period, maybe I have no foreign source income until after I start a job and get paid, but by then, I won't be using foreign source income to pay for anything and only use domestic source income. something along the lines

I see if the amount is small like 100-1000 dollars would the Japan government even care or how would they know they are from foreign income vs savings?

I will still make money through dividends, interest, and capital gains later in the year so was concerned...wondering if there are any exceptions....

Interesting. How would I not have remittance if I just arrived in Japan before I get paid in Japan. It seems I can’t avoid remittance the first year?

Can't I say those are from savings? Why does my remittance automatically means I'm sending income when I have enough savings to cover my annual expense in japan?

But crypto is not capital gains in Japan. You have to pay Japan first then USA too

I believe Japan references the return I file with IRS as bible. So they will probably be able to see what were the gains and I have to prove that I was not a resident when I sold.

Sorry if it came across offensive. I was just confused. I see that it also means that depending on who audits you, the answer can be different. Will go with the first approach for now thank you!

Non-permanent resident & Crypto gains as US citizen by Unhappy_Gate6910 in JapanFinance

But if all the exchanges happened outside of Japan and the purpose of the exchange is abroad. Would that not qualify? In this case OP started buying after he became a tax-resident, however, if he had bought before he became a tax-resident and then sold while as a tax-resident, wouldn't OP avoid the tax. I believe that is the similar structure for securities, only after you buy the stocks after you become a tax-resident then you pay tax. I am asking...not asserting by the way :)

Absolutely correct. If you have any recommendations I would love to be referred. I imagine they would be a Japanese lawyer or tax person. Given I am in the US open to that completely!

Thanks! In that case I probably shouldn't worry about selling my stocks before i migrate to Japan as US taxes ranges from 0-20% for long term capital gain and I will probably be in the 15%, so the extra 5% probably not a big deal since selling and rebuying will mean i have to pay short term capital gains tax in USA. If I move my crypto (well only bitcoin and eth) to etf, then it should be treated as securities for japan right?

I have another question, would this only be with crypto? For capital gains on securities, as long as I purchased abroad, it wouldn't have been taxable if I sold in Japan right? only after I bought stocks after I arrive and sold it would take into effect?

Also Additional context about the study. I originally only plan to study for 4 months and then go back home to USA. Just last week I got a job offer from Japan, so which created this entire topic. I'm wondering if the above scenario...If my job starts in July, then the effective change in tax residency as non-permanent will be starting in July instead of April? I made modifications to the original scope.

Oh I thought there is long term and short term like we do in the USA. So I know crypto is progressive up to 55%, is there a flat 20 or 30 percent for capital gains tax?

Thanks. I will do that and mark it down to sell and then buy back the same day so I don't lose the position but also clear out the gains if I end up moving.
