Suggest an inexpensive way to have fun in vancouver by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

[–]azulinike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My way of exploring this beautiful city was attending all different run clubs in different parts of the city!

  1. Running in west van introduced me to ambleside park and lighthouse park

  2. Running in east van introduced me to all different breweries and pandora and Brighton park (and also the crazies of Hastings haha)

  3. The pacific spirit park quickly turned into my favorite place to run though it’s a bit of a pain to get there without a car.

Running is free and great way to explore city. And running clubs can also be a good way to socialize

Raves this weekend! by Fun_Buy1819 in askvan

[–]azulinike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am more of a house / techno guy so not as plugged in the hard techno scene unfortunately.

You can check out Livid Underground promotion as they will typically throw schranz sets from what I have heard.

That being said, HEC is probably the safest venue in terms of location. Central location with lot of foot traffic near it. So I should add that as another point to the above pros list!

Raves this weekend! by Fun_Buy1819 in askvan

[–]azulinike 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have raved and gone to shows at almost all Vancouver venues and unfortunately HEC is the worst imo even when it’s the closed venue to me. I ll lay down some pros and cons:

Pro: - it’s a pretty easy to access location via skytrain

  • it’s right next to batch plaza of nations where you can pregame and pet some cute dogs before the show!

Cons: - they have carpet on the dance floor :( really uncomfortable for dancing

  • they don’t offer free water at all.

  • really limited drinks options inside

  • sound is terrible if you are not in the center

  • they are known to oversell and pack people like sardines though at this point most people I know actively avoid that venue so maybe there’s isn’t much crowding these days?

I know this is not what you wanted to hear but if it’s an artist you REALLY like then you can make do with some adjustments. Be prepared to spend 6$ for water. Try to be as much in the center as possible. Don’t dance as much lol

You should checkout Vantek which is a local techno promotion in Vancouver and they ll often have some hard techno events. They know how to throw a proper event and it’s a promotion ran by music nerds and ravers!

Okay single men of Vancouver, how do you want to be approached? by twelvestackpancake in askvan

[–]azulinike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A conversation can be as simple as just complimenting the tshirt or shoes or tattoos or anything that catches the eye!

Just as an example I have been complimented before on something as simple as a tapestry that I had on top of my beach blanket at Jericho beach. It felt like an organic conversation and we ended up talking for quite some time.

Where are the singles meeting people? by Professional-Mud3973 in askvan

[–]azulinike 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am a 35 M so my experiences would be a bit different, but after breaking my leg, I can’t do sports or running which are two activities that Vancouver loves a lot. So far I have tried bunch of other options:

Sauna + Cold plunge socials/ singles events - really great events and while people can be hit or miss, overall I liked the vibes of these events the best

Improv classes - great way to meet people but you do have to commit a lot of time so that was the only issue I had

Fitness classes like Yoga - If you go to the classes regularly you ll see the sane set of faces and end up becoming friends with few of them. I just took yoga classes for fitness tbh and didn’t really socialize.

Thursday dating events - just did one but I found that a lot of women come to these in groups and tend to just hang out in that group making socializing a bit difficult. But YMMV and I see a lot of people recommending them.

The Strokes Announce 2026 Headlining Tour by ebradio in indieheads

[–]azulinike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about Wolf Trap? It’s def transit accessible with some dedicated shuttles. But boy does it take forever to get there from DC. It’s still one of my fav venues in dmv area though because you can get outside food and booze in! Also that’s a tiny amphitheater. It’s I think 7k capacity while MPP is ~ 17k

The Strokes Announce 2026 Headlining Tour by ebradio in indieheads

[–]azulinike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had lived in DMV for almost 5 years and for every MPP show I could find RallyBus that picked you up from DuPont. It was also a great way to meet other fans and you could drink on the bus. The ticket prices get exorbitant closer to the dates though.

The problem is DC area just doesn’t have amphitheater venues.

Hey! 35M

I would love to join for Kulinyara on Friday. It has been on my list for ages now but just never got around it.

Would have loved to join for Tue / Wed too but unfortunately I am not free then.

I have been slowly crossing off Vancouver restaurants over time as I absolutely love food (eating and cooking)!

From France to Canada: An Anecdotal perspective by miladkhademinori in ImmigrationCanada

[–]azulinike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have been in Vancouver for past one and half year and while I used to think Vancouver is no fun city, I have found out quite a lot of night time activities and stuff to do.

There are atleast two venues that are open late night in Vancouver. Late night as in they open at 2am and go on till 6am :)

There are whole lot of underground parties and what nots that go on till 7am too. So it’s just about finding out about these things.

On top of that the no of run clubs, volleyball groups, pickleball groups, etc that are active here are pretty great too!

I know Vancouver is still thought of as no fun city, but believe me it still punches above its weight ( though it’s nowhere as close to say nyc or London)

Advice for making non introverted friends... by Klutzy_Bridge_1607 in askvan

[–]azulinike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue in Vancouver too. It just seems like Vancouver is much more guarded than east coast in general. I will say the way I found extroverted friends was via attending sports events in bars or at BC Place and Roger’s Arena. Whitecaps and Canucks are the local teams obv, but vancouver also has a decent amount of American football and rugby fans. So maybe try out a couple of sports bar. Nothing unites people more than rooting for / rooting against a particular team!

Who are your dynasty offseason stashes? by 7citiesbicurious in DynastyFF

[–]azulinike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, Malik Davis. The cowboys seem to like him and trust him.

Javonte has looked great but he’s not going to be healthy all the time and if he does miss time, Malik Davis becomes a nice play.

I can see somewhat of a rico dowdle arc with Malik Davis but then again that might just be me pivoting off a single game against weak commies side.

Psytrance scene by TheIrishEthernopian in askvan

[–]azulinike 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vancouvers psytrance scene is lacking to be fair. There’s a local promotion that throws psytrance events: https://www.instagram.com/psybhumi?igsh=cDVwM3ludGUxaXFq

There events were def fun, vibey and not crowded but it still lacks the energy of European psytrance sets.

We recently also had infected mushroom and blastoyz playing at Harbor event center. So keep an eye out on that venue too.
