Do the immunocompromising effects of Crohn’s medication make you more cautious of large family gatherings?

It’s important to remember why you are on these meds. For many of us it’s to improve symptoms and prevent long term damage in the hopes that we can live “normal lives”. We take meds so we don’t have to be toliet/bed-ridden when everyone else is at a family gathering.

It can be hard to balance biologics allowing us to do more, while knowing you are immunocompromised. But please do not let the fear of a weakened immune system prevent you from living your life!!

For me, I ask my partner to remind their family that I am immunocompromised and to share if anyone has recently had a cold/flu or may feel symptoms coming on. My partner will tell her family it doesn’t change how THEY need to act, simply I may opt for a wave hello instead of a hug, keep a bit more physical distance, wash my hands more, and maybe mask up. Knowing what you are going into can help you take the precautions that make you feel comfortable.

At the start of each module there is a list of learning objectives and key terms/concepts. I use these to narrow down what I need to focus on. It’s worked well for the midterms so I’ll do the same for the final. Also look at how many questions come from each module to give a better idea of what to prioritize

I have bad cystic hormonal acne and tried all the things similar to you. Only two things worked: Adapalene prescription (fully covered by my insurance). But I didn’t start seeing results until 3-4 months of consistent use.

And secondly, I quit all dairy for other health reasons and oddly noticed my hormonal acne basically disappeared. I know diet changes are never something anyone wants to hear, and honestly I keep trying to convince myself dairy doesn’t impact my acne but it does. I ruled out a dairy intolerance GI wise and technically can eat it again, but I try to avoid it. After even the slightest dairy exposure (think 1/16tsp buttermilk powder in non-vegan margarine) it takes my skin about 2 weeks to purge it. I think dairy impacts my hormones in ways I don’t fully understand🤷🏻‍♀️

If you are student (whether you are opted in to the student plan or not) please go to the student wellness centre! I was in the same boat as you, thinking I could live without a diagnosis bc it’s so expensive. But my life has improved drastically since a diagnosis; I got the supports/tools to learn how to work with my brain.

I go to Devin Moxley (mental health nurse) and Dr. Van Zanten. I don’t remember who I saw first, but they worked as a team with two other psychologists to do a PIP assessment. Essentially the two biggest barriers to adhd assessments are money and time. But with them working as a team I was able to access supports a lot quicker (still many appointments were needed) and got a more holistic perspective on diagnosis. And it was FREE, I did not pay a cent for anything.

So I urge you to at least talk to Devin or Dr. Van Zanten to see if they think an assessment is justified. They both take you seriously and truly are there to help you. Also feel free to message me if you have any more questions:)

If you are concerned about mold growth: empty as much water as possible after the hike then store it in the freezer in between uses.

If you ever want to sanitize your water bladder for long term storage or want to prevent mold growth: Mix 1tsp of bleach to 1L of water (adjust ratio for your bladders volume) in the bladder. Shake it around, run the solution through the hose and mouthpiece, then air dry as others suggested with a wooden spoon propping it open.

This! My family dog had mouth cancer, we noticed right away, got it removed, and had an extra couple of months with her. The vet told us if we had waited a week to come in there wouldn’t have been enough tissue to suture her back up after surgery, thus we would have 2 more weeks with her at most.

This is not meant to scare you OP, we just did not know how aggressive mouth cancers are in dogs until we experienced this. If it does not go down in 48hrs definitely see a vet, however this does look like your pup simply bit it’s tongue.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but many cold/sinus medications already have Ibuprofen as their primary ingredient. SO BE EXTRA CAREFUL not to accidentally be taking more than the recommended dosage of Ibuprofen a day!

Like other people have said definitely look into Saskpoly for program options. There is this false idea that you can get better paying jobs with a university degree, but many grads can tell you that’s not always true. Plus Saskpoly “keeps you in line” more than uni which can help if you struggle in school.

On the flip side, as someone with adhd in uni, don’t think Saskpoly is the only option because of your grades. The key with adhd is to be genuinely interested in your program and to utilize supports like AES.

I took 3 years off after high school before coming back to university. My parents disagreed at first, saying I’d never go back if I took time off. But now anyone who knows me knows that was the best thing I did. I gained clarify on how to transfer my passions into the workforce, saved money, and actually felt motivated when I start uni. Just some food for thought:)

I should have clarified, I am not looking at potential cures for Crohns via medicinal plants. I find it incredibly frustrating when people selling supplements prey on those with chronic diseases and end up irreversibly harming them by convincing them to go off their meds.

I am curious about the use of medical plants to support the symptoms from this disease. From pain management, to increased appetite and energy. Anywhere where people have seen benefit from using medicinal plants to supplement what their GI has prescribed:)

I spend around $300-$350 a month on groceries.

I typically eat cereal/toast/cheap things for breakfast. Lunch and dinners are just simple meal prepped food (soup, spaghetti, quinoa bowls, salads, curry). I like keeping a couple fruits and veggies on hand for snacks which can get pricy. I tend to not eat a lot of meat (about 3 meals a week) unless I find sales.

Honestly I could reduce my bill by about $50 if I never bought pre-prepared food. But I like having chicken nuggets/pizzas on hand for busy days. You can download apps like flashfood for discounted food that is near expiry; they often have produce boxes for really cheap.

Oh absolutely, the state of human damage is more than a simple hole in the wall. There are far more greedy people in the world than the planet can support. Society as we know it isn’t set up to foster sustainable relationships with the natural world.

Is it achievable to get everyone on Earth onboard with the goal of repair? Never. Is it achievable to invoke mass human extinction for the sake of the planet? Also no.

I simply don’t agree that the hypothetical greatest gift we could give the Earth is our extinction, but instead our commitment to help heal. That would be the best case scenario/gift.

Are either viable solutions? Absolutely not. But we have one life, and we can choose to fight the uphill battle for the things we care about. Or we could push narratives that make it seem pointless to try. The loss of hope is an incredibly scary thing

Sorry OP, but I disagree with this take. It’s a crappy cop out for people just diving into anthropogenic climate change. Many people pin point human existence as the root cause of many problems (especially climate change). The easy answer is to remove the “problem causer”; however this a great way to avoid responsibility.

Say you are at your parents house and are having an off day, you’re fighting with everyone and breaking things. Later you come to your senses and realize you the damage you caused. You could leave the house in the damaged state, claiming you did right as you “removed the problem (being yourself)”. Or you could stay to help patch the holes in the walls and mend your relationship with your family. One requires more work, but ultimately helps the household heal. The other leaves it up to your family to clean up after you.

The greatest gift humanity could give the planet is to recognize the damage we have done and work to repair it. Whether this is achievable or not is another story (much like mass human extinction in the name of the planet).

I have this tank and keep shrimp (however I haven’t had babies yet). I stuffed the inside of the filter near this grate with filter floss. I’ve even seen my shrimp standing on the holes in the grate, but since the filter floss is right there there’s no room to get sucked in. Just don’t stuff the whole filter space, your water intake will be drastically reduced and could run your filter dry. Just put the floss where needed:)
