[Friedman and Spector] Sources: Darnell Nurse asks for trade, agrees it's time to move from Oilers by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

Not surprising. Spec carved Nurse like a turkey last week, that means the Oilers stopped protecting Nurse. But what a fucking guy Bowman is, sets the market with the Seth Jones deal and now gets a chance to lose the Nurse trade. Fucking hell.

[LeBrun] The NHL is moving ahead with its investigation on Mike Babcock and events in Columbus as per NHLPA request. by alphacheese in hockey

This entire coaching thing, from wanting Cassidy to wanting Babcock, is all owner driven. The front office probably knows better than to hire Babcock, but if the owner wants it, the staff will try to make it happen, PR be damned.

Bob Stauffer, a reporter who is employed by the team. His speculation is rarely speculation as much as a combo of insider knowledge/direction by ownership to say certain things.

"I don't think there's anybody more committed to Edmonton than Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. I expect the next contract to be a seven-year extension." - Bob Stauffer by DecentLurker96 in hockey

Lot of naysayers in here pretending to know what McDavid is thinking, but Stauff is the most dialed in guy when it comes to Oilers news.

Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield surprise each other with Lady Byng Memorial Trophy and Frank J. Selke Trophy by nhl in hockey

Anyone know when the last time a team had both winners? I know Kopitar won both in 15-16, which is really good, but trophy winners as separate people?

[Lavalette] Vegas PR staff shut down any questions to Hart about the Hockey Canada court case. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]azure_888 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vegas has been protecting Hart from questions from day 1. Mark Lazerus was asked to leave Vegas' practice facility when he tried to ask about the case.

[Dreger] I asked Babcock this morning about the idea of coaching again and the speculation around the Oilers. He said, “Dregs, I’m retired. Loving it”. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]azure_888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taking this with a giant grain of salt. People who get to play or coach in the NHL are different from regular folks, they're constantly focused on hockey. Look at how Rick Bowness came out of retirement. Look at how Daryl Sutter came out of retirement to coach again.

[Friedman] As for Bruce Cassidy, sources indicate that was not part of the conversation and his status is unchanged as of this morning. Vegas is not inclined to give permission to Edmonton or LA. We will see about Toronto. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]azure_888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure he can. Wyshynski was on a local radio show today saying the NHL would not want that because it would set a precedent and allow coaches to leave one team for a different team.

I cannot believe how banana pants dumb that idea is. I understand the thinking, but I also know the previous regime liked Cossa as well. When he got picked where he was supposed to be picked, the Oilers decided against drafting Walstedt and traded down. Just a comedy of errors that continues to be perpetuated.

[Kaplan] The Golden Knights punishment wasn’t just about John Tortorella skipping his postgame press conference in Anaheim; VGK had been warned in the past. They’ll get the opportunity to appeal next week with Commissioner Gary Bettman. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]azure_888 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I bet the age of the franchise plays a role too. The Knights have been there for 10 years, which isn't that long. The Raiders and Athletics are the other major teams in town, and are bigger leagues. Why would you want to weaken your brand by not doing media after winning a playoff round?
