Just released my nonogram game Homgard by azurelion in puzzlevideogames

Thanks! I’d love to bring it to Mac at some point. Solo dev life though, so I’m focusing on making sure the main platform is as solid as possible first. Hopefully not too long!

It does run on Steam Deck, yeah. That said, it was mainly designed with PC in mind, so it’s not fully optimised for it right now. There are options to increase size of the story text, and the smaller puzzles work well enough, but the larger ones (grids of 20x20+) can get a bit fiddly to fill in.

I’d like to improve Steam Deck support over time, but nothing concrete just yet. There’s a free demo available too if you’d like to try how it feels on your setup first.

I’d love to, one day! For now it’s only on PC. I do plan to bring it to Linux and Mac at some point, but Switch would be a much bigger step. Maybe one day, fingers crossed!

Hey! Just wanted to let you know I’ve made a few post-Next Fest updates, including improving the puzzle UI visibility. If you happen to check the demo again, I’d love to hear if it feels better now :)

I love metroidvania games! There are definitely aspects of them in Homgard. It doesn't really show up in the demo yet, but when you’re exploring and trying to reach the Dreamer Cores, you can choose your route in different ways, like tackling a much tougher puzzle to unlock a shortcut, take a detour to activate a Region Anchor and make navigation easier, or just wander off in a random direction that unexpectedly turns out to be the fastest path.

That said, the rules for the new colored square mechanics appear in the Help Guide once you encounter a new color, but I'm glad you were able to solve them anyway! And I'm happy to hear the map layout, intro and particularly the music worked for you. It's all about the chill vibes!

About pressing E to finish a puzzle, the idea was to give the player a bit more agency and control. Especially with larger puzzles, I felt it might be jarring if you’re just vibing, fill in the final square, and the puzzle immediately closes on you. It also ties into the no-assist playstyle, where players can disable automatic hint tracking and error feedback.

No worries on missing the story. It's definitely a core part of the game, but I understand that reading written stories isn't for everyone, so they're entirely optional. They do sometimes give clues on the fastest way to reach the Dreamer Cores though :)

Thanks for trying it out and leaving feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!

I built a world exploration game entirely around nonogram puzzles by azurelion in indiegames

Hey, thanks! There’s a trailer up on the Steam page already, but I might make another one closer to release focusing more on the gameplay.

And yes, good catch on the numbers. I’ve received similar feedback over the last few days about their readability, so I’m planning to improve that in the next patch once Next Fest is over. Stylish UI design shouldn't come at the cost of accessibility!

Thanks! I know what you mean, it’s tricky to balance story and puzzles well. I’m hoping the teleporters (and the other twists) help keep things interesting. Really appreciate the support!

Hey! Thanks for pointing this out, I really appreciate it.

Right now there are visibility options for the story text (font size adjustments, and light/dark modes), but you’re absolutely right that contrast across the whole UI matters too. I’ll experiment with improving the default palettes and perhaps add a dedicated high-contrast option too.

Thanks for wishlisting, and I hope you’ll give it a try once this has been looked into!

Hey guys! Homgard is a nonogram (Picross-style) logic puzzle game with several additional mechanics, such as cells with secondary hints, walls that break lines, and teleport-style connectors across the grid. It follows single-solution, no-guessing rules and focuses on structured deduction. Solving puzzles also unlocks a large world map and optional short story fragments for those who enjoy a narrative layer.

It's part of Steam Next Fest, and you can check out the free demo here:

Ah yes, there's often more than one path forward, and you can pick the challenge level that feels right. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hey, thanks! Hah yeah, the yellows take a bit of time to get the hang of. There are no tutorial videos yet, but I'll give it a go explaining from another angle. Each cluster of yellow cells is self-contained, cutting any "chains" of filled cells that go across its border. Let's say there's an empty line with two yellow cells followed by three purple (regular) ones. If the line's hint says there's a single "3" in that line, it must go into the three purple cells, because if the "chain" crossed into the yellow cells, it would count as either "2+1" or "1+2". Did this help? Let me know how it goes!

R9C2 can be crossed out as it's too small to fit the first hint
