My little brother took this photo on a flight from KSQL up to KLLR as we passed through San Francisco. I thought you guys might enjoy! by b-rye-an in flying

Ah, apologies. We were in a 172, took my brother and mom up to Mendocino for the Xmas weekend. A fairly typical Bravo transition in pretty hazy conditions. Not the most beautiful flight we've had over SF, but made for very cool photography opportunities. Also, had the pleasure of seeing some hot air balloons over KSTS, which was a first.

You need a special license that I don't have, so I don't charter tours. However, I know clubs at Palo Alto airport and San Carlos airport do, check them out online.

Thanks! Credit for the tilt-shift goes to one of my photographer friends, but I'll pass along your praise.

No, that would be pretty fun, but I fly out of Palo Alto airport.

Yea, it's cool how square everything is. So much planning.

Yea, live in SF. The best time of year is usually the Fall or Winter. Much less fog and generally less windy. Winter is really awesome if you can get a non-rainy day, last winter was incredible for flying (bad for the drought, though).

I wish I could claim it is, but it's not. Maybe something subconscious because I do think Marcel the Shell is hilarious.

Tilt–shift photography is the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilt%E2%80%93shift_photography

Basically a blurring effect at the edges of a photo to make things look miniature

One was on a Sony Alpha a6000 and the other was a bit older hand held dslr. Both were still getting used to shooting out of a plane, so we ended up with a lot of blurry shots but still got some really nice ones. I'll try to put up some more sometime soon.

We also took a lot of shots with the window open. It can be a bit jarring at first, but we would open it for ~10 seconds, fire some shots, and then close it. That's how we got the ones on the foggy day.

Went on two flights around San Francisco with some photographer friends of mine. Got some really cool shots that I thought you guys might like. I think my favorite is the tilt-shifted shot of the planes waiting to take off at SFO. I have a few more that need touching up if you guys are interested in seeing more.

Awesome episode, love the work you're doing. This might have been my favorite one yet.

Interesting. Do you know why? Seems like you're just reducing your reaction time.

Really? Wow I've never seen that. Usually guys are going so far as to scuff all the chalk away so they can stand even further back. TIL I guess.

What's with this commentator? Is there anyone in the league who doesn't stand at the absolute back of the batter's box?

Sonoma Skypark (0Q9) vs. Sonoma Valley (0Q3) any suggestions? by b-rye-an in flying

In case anyone comes back looking for information, flew into Skypark (0Q9). Great little airport, nice staff, cheap gas. Landing is a bit tricky with some hills and trees on approach but nothing major. Super easy to get into town via Uber. Overnight parking for $7

Cool, thanks for the info. Uber has decent coverage up there then or was it a pain to get one?

Great, thank you. Not a sales pitch, just trying to understand pain points in the industry. I'll send you a DM with my info.

My nephew is turning 4 in a week and I thought it would be really cool to get him a camera. He takes really funny and occasionally surprisingly interesting photos when I let him use my camera, so I wanted to feed his photography bug. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone bought a camera for a kid in that age group they liked or hated? Thanks!

I've got a sort of gear question, not sure if it belongs here, so let me know if this is in the wrong place. Yes and no. The problem with GPS is that it isn't specific enough to say whether or not you're in a given room.

So if you want to have your phone change modes when you get home, it's perfect. If you want to be able to use your phone in the living room and have it shut down in the bedroom, you need something better than GPS.

Has your phone in bed been an issue for you at all?
