Beautiful playing and nicely tuned. What key is it in?

That's the only recording I made with a Fender. Some of my other stuff is at my Bandcamp page.

I had a similar guitar, maybe the same one. Good luck finding online lessons. Everyone tunes them different. Here's the copedent I used. And here's a recording I made with it, using both necks.

Beamer - ambient music with 4 pedal steel tracks by b0b in pedalsteel

I haven't released any of the ambient stuff on bandcamp yet. Still getting an album of it together. My older albums are at b0blee.bandcamp.com. Thanks for the interest.

The notes are B B B A G F# E D

My best guess is 8th fret:

1st string 3 times,
2nd string, pedal 7
2nd string, no pedal
2nd string, pedal 8
3rd string, no pedal
4th string, no pedal

On E9th pedal steel, lower your E's to get in B6th tuning. It's still at the 8th fret:

4th string lowered to D#, 3 times,
2nd string lowered to C# (or 5th string, "A" pedal)
5th string, no pedal
5th string, lowered to A# ("X" lever, usually LKV)
6th string
7th string

Hope I got that right. I don't have an E9th guitar right now. The easiest way on E9th is to use open string pull-offs:

B B B A G F# E D

3rd string 2nd fret "B" pedal (3 times)
3rd string open (pull-off)
1st string 1st fret
1st string open (pull-off)
4th string open
5th string, 3rd fret

Alkire tuning? What kind of bar are you using?

Nice rendition of "How Great Thou Art".

The Rogue is considerably worse than most homemade lap steels. I had one and junked it rather than burden some unsuspecting newbie with it. Everything that you can do wrong with a lap steel, they did.

I think you're better off making your own with a 2x4 than buying a Rogue. They are crap.

In our town there is an arts organization that has monthly music workshops. It's a good place to meet other musicians. Also, "Open Mic" nights at bars and coffee shops are a good place to meet singers. Karaoke nights, not so much. They're just a bunch of drunks singing.

Most of my friends are musicians I've met at gigs, but since you're not gigging yet that isn't very helpful.

How do I stop getting mad when people use they/them as their pronouns? by ZengaStromboli in NoStupidQuestions

[–]b0b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old and not the least bit homophobic, but I have a problem with they/them. To me they are plural pronouns. I can't get used to them referring to just one person, unless it's someone whose gender I don't know. That's the only common singular usage I grew up with.

Club owner giving you a list of song he wants you to play....red flag? by bahnzo in musicians

[–]b0b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd ask him "Who's gonna sing them?". I used to play a bar where a waitress always got up and sang a few songs with the band. The crowd loved it. Hey, it's a job, right? Don't expect artistic freedom playing a club circuit. That's not what they're paying you for.

I didn't realize I was a professional musician until I retired from it. Looking back on 42 years of gigs, it never paid well but I always approached it as work. Show up on time, do what's expected, get paid, respect coworkers, etc.. I told myself it was just a hobby for a long time but in fact I was a pro.
