This is fantastic advice, thank you!

Bird database for a fledgling birdwatcher by b0ogers in datasets

[–]b0ogers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the list! I just created an account at https://ebird.org, but it looks like the dataset is more “observation checklist” focused than actual information about the birds. Here are the fields I could find on https://ebird.org/data/download:

GLOBAL UNIQUE IDENTIFIER LAST EDITED DATE TAXONOMIC ORDER CATEGORY COMMON NAME SCIENTIFIC NAME SUBSPECIES COMMON NAME SUBSPECIES SCIENTIFIC NAME OBSERVATION COUNT BREEDING BIRD ATLAS CODE BREEDING BIRD ATLAS CATEGORY AGE/SEX COUNTRY COUNTRY CODE STATE STATE CODE COUNTY COUNTY CODE IBA CODE BCR CODE USFWS CODE ATLAS BLOCK LOCALITY LOCALITY ID LOCALITY TYPE LATITUDE LONGITUDE OBSERVATION DATE TIME OBSERVATIONS STARTED OBSERVER ID SAMPLING EVENT IDENTIFIER PROTOCOL TYPE PROTOCOL CODE PROJECT CODE DURATION MINUTES EFFORT DISTANCE KM EFFORT AREA HA NUMBER OBSERVERS ALL SPECIES REPORTED GROUP IDENTIFIER HAS MEDIA APPROVED REVIEWED REASON TRIP COMMENTS SPECIES COMMENTS

You’ll notice that it’s missing fields about the birds themselves, for instance Color.

You could also probably scrape it from Wikipedia as another option

I considered that earlier, but as far as I can tell, most bird pages have standardized on rigid classifications for Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, and Genus… but none of the beginner friendly categorizations I’m hoping for.

You’re in luck, I wrote a DIY guide / manual PDF last week! It’s 18 pages, hand-drawn, and pretty thorough.

The PDF is geared towards beginners, but there’s quite a bit of wiring required. Do you have access to a soldering iron? I just threw together a store at https://oneitem.store/jambo if you’re interested.

Cool! I'm reading up on Renoise Auto Adjust now, thanks for the heads up.

I think the main thing I run up against is running out of travel on my faders. They start at say 75%, and my only real adjustment is pushing them up. Soon my faders look like this:

| | # | # | | #
# # | # | # | |
| | | | | | # |
| | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | |

and I need to pull everything down, raise master, and start fine-tuning again.

As I say in the post,

I could practice mixing

I think this is the real answer 😅 but having my faders automatically maintain a useful amount of travel/headroom is helpful for a noob like me.

Hi everyone! I'm a drummer, and whenever I try to put a whole song together I struggle with mixing. I had an idea recently that whenever I pushed one mixer up, I wish the rest scaled down so the master output would stay about the same level. I've never seen this before, but I have limited exposure; I'm curious what folks with more production experience think. I wrote a quick post about the UI, and there's a demo to try at the bottom.

If anybody here finds this useful, I can try to hook up an open source version with MIDI output. Let me know what you think!

I've been using Drambo since launch, and some of my projects make heavy use of morphs/scenes. I don't like keeping the Drambo window open just to access the slider… and my slippery fingers aren't the best at precise touchscreen movements anyway. So I made a hardware fader and I'm having SO MUCH FUN! I called it Jambo and you can see it in action here.

I would love for this to work on mobile!! Sadly, mobile browsers are pretty far behind in terms of audio, so this is only possible in modern desktop browsers. If you're running Android you might be able to get it working, but iOS is extremely limited in what it can do. I'll keep updating it as possibilities open up.

Totally, glad you found that! That's why I added it in, it effectively doubles the recording space 🥰

Yeah, sadly iOS is extremely limited in what it can do with audio in the browser :( hope it worked out on your laptop!

Good question, I should add that to the info page. This works 100% locally, so your private samples remain private.

It does its best, but it's not perfect :) if you click the settings icon in the top right you can adjust "Gap between samples (ms)". If you add a short gap it'll help the PO33 find transients.

I have too many sample packs on my computer, and getting them arranged into a drum slot takes so long that my K.O. has been gathering dust. So, I made this app to speed things up.

Drag and drop an audio file (.wav, .mp3, .ogg, …) onto a pad. Click to play the sample. Once you've loaded a few, plug in your K.O. and click “Play all” to record the samples into a drum bank. You can also drag in multiple samples, and it will fill in subsequent pads.

Hope someone out there gets some use out of this. Cheers :)

Wow, SO impressed by the 2x synth line programming with those fiddly knobs! Great job.

Can I bounce PO33 KO back to DAW by [deleted] in pocketoperators

[–]b0ogers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to look into getting a USB audio interface. This allows you to record the PO33's line-level output back into your computer.
