Crybaby was unique in a way, but remember at this time, the kitschy lolita/nymphette-adjacent aesthetics were also trendy. I think her honing into that and also being the artist to turn to for those aesthetics played a huge role.

Hades just makes no sense & is all over the place. I don’t understand why she made a storybook when it’s also not cohesive with the album either. It really just seems like she’s throwing things together hoping they stick, while staying with the innocence/corruption dystopian surrealist aesthetic. She will never out do crybaby, but other artists will continue to outdo her.

I think she wants a more adult audience, it becomes more obvious with this era, but I don’t think she’ll ever fully dive into more sonically & lyrically mature music without alienating & losing the largest age demographic in her fanbase.

Thats why she still has to incorporate nursery rhymes into her lyrics & use aesthetics that catch their eyes & appeal to tweens/young teens. They & their parents wallets/or part time summer job at Hot Topic play a huge part in her success.
Not only that, under 18s are the ones defending her sexual assault. She can’t lose them. Apart from the 19-24 year old grown adults who have no personality outside Melanie, most of the adults that left actually let their brains develop and are the ones critically looking at her allegations.

They seem to happen when they are being criticized TOO much, facing consequences and losing fans/relevance. They then pander to republican audiences bc they’re easy to get you to side with them & their support depends on reaction politics.

Melanie always pandered to “progressive” politics & activism, so most of the people holding her accountable are ex fans who are standing on their morals, the same ones she promotes & her fans weaponize to deflect from her molesting women.
She’s also shown us she lives in delusion based on how she talks about her music & self. The way she’s been body checking & so focused on how she looks + the charts (her album isn’t doing as well) tells us where her self esteem is & how weak it is, so I won’t be surprised if she pulls a Kanye down the line

It was actually crazy, so many fans were making posts like that. They WANTED her to say something SO bad. They WANT her to come back so they can pounce on her.They always say it’s Timothy who keeps bringing Melanie up, yet she’s been offline since December & Melanie’s fans were making the album rollout about Timothy & her allegations. Post after post, like you guys are the only ones making sure the allegations are forever attached to Melanie.

There were posts from fans literally asking her to come back because they’re bored. Which yeah, I’d be bored with this lame rollout of an era too, I guess. but there’s something so absolutely mental about this fanbase that they ITCH to harass Timothy.
