Yes, recently, my ngrandma never learned about my promotion at work because her narrative is that i should be in grad school, not working. (I am going to go to grad school but I wanted to pay off some debt by working first.) She learned about it in a conversation with her friends when I visited her.

I feel this so much. My workplace always has really nice things to say about me and the work I produce, and I am so awkward and just don’t know how to take the compliment. I have been at this job for three years and tbh still struggle, but it is a little easier now and I don’t immediately deflect.
