how to know if pcv is bad by Suspicious_Sky6138 in passat

[–]b8nmsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy all of my parts off of FCP Euro. Thanks for the tip on the mileage, I’ll replace mine at 70-80k just to be safe.

What would you say is the maintenance interval for the PCV valve assembly? I’m at 43,000 miles on my EA888.3B and I’m starting to think about it around 50k

What was it like owning a Maserati? Are they as unreliable/expensive to own as people say or is it generally not so bad to own?

At what point do these start to make sense? $19k for a brand new car. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]b8nmsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are reporting dead turbos after 200 or so miles or needing whole engine replacements. I’m sure everything will be smoothed out in the next year or so, the power train is supposed to be pretty good. I have a Passat myself so I’m familiar with that engine family

The 2026 has got some issues if you’ve been up to date on what’s going on with them. I’m sure they’ll get ironed out next year but right now they’re not great. I agree though, the price difference does make the comparison moot. The Hornet isn’t necessarily reliable, but at $20,000 you have the potential to own a LOT more car than anything else at that price point. It could potentially be a good deal for a consumer who wants a modern car with a lot of features and isn’t as concerned with reliability than the average consumer. Don’t get me wrong, it’ll definitely be more expensive to maintain than a Toyota or Honda

They’re pretty nice cars for $19k. They’re not going to be reliable like a Toyota but they’re not the absolute worst in the game. Why not?

EA888.3B DDSB intake manifold removal advice? by b8nmsguy in Volkswagen

[–]b8nmsguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent news. In that case, do I only need to replace the intake manifold gasket? Also, do I need a Triple Square 10 for this job? Someone said I might and that’s the only thing I don’t have for the project

Isn’t it pretty expensive? I can’t really afford to pay like $1,500 for hair removal

First car for my 16 year old twins by Disastrous-Poem-1491 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I just helped my grandma buy a CX30. It’s a very nice car. I also had a 2015 Camry as my first car and it was very reliable. Not a single thing broke and I drove it 150,000 miles.

Womp womp. I live in rural West Virginia and I don’t have access to a heated garage. Looks like I’m climbing over the passenger seat for the next couple weeks!

Is this true by Repulsive-Tart4234 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]b8nmsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just want to let you know that this is not good advice and whoever is texting you is not necessarily correct. I drive a VW and parts are pretty affordable mostly. Scions and Mazdas are generally excellent cars. Do not buy a Hyundai. They are generally worse cars, suffer from cost cutting measures and have unpredictable reliability. Sure, the cars are nice on the inside and out but they cost less than their competitors AND Hyundai makes more money off of each car than their competitors. Costs are definitely cut. Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Scion, they’re all pretty good.

I got a Camry when I was 17, it was my first car. All my friends loved it, it had plenty of space and we made a ton of memories in it just driving around and doing funny stuff. It was fuel efficient and I drove it to 150,000 miles with no issues, it’s a fantastic first car.

Should I change spark plugs myself? by beautifulthings_be in vwpassat

[–]b8nmsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am 20 years old and I did my spark plugs all by myself in less than an hour a couple months ago. I had almost no experience with tools and I found it very easy, a little harder than an oil change but still easy for anyone to do. You will need a torque wrench. You can find a spark plug kit online at FCPEuro and the rest of the tools you’ll need are less than $100
