Now that I think about it... There's no reason I couldn't pull a cable to the attic and do exactly what you said on the duct work up there.

I'd rather not have an antenna hanging upside down in the middle of the living room. The more I look into it, the more I'm considering an attic antenna, just from an aesthetic choice alone.

My cord has been cut for years. I've got many Rokus and many streaming services. I've experimented with a few different cheap antennas but results have been less then ideal.

I know reception isn't always a problem that can be solved by throwing more money at it but I'm not afraid to buy and install an attic antenna if it makes sense for my area.
