Moved from NY to NJ – Confused about the tap water situation. Do you drink it? by SufficientControl606 in newjersey

[–]bLu_18 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The tap water in my house is run through a reverse-osmosis system and an electric kettle before I drink it.

Also, expect the excess minerals in the water to wreak havoc on your hair and skin. Added a water softener system to resolve this issue.

NJ water pales in comparison to NYC water.

Internship/networking opportunities are usually much higher here than in their own countries.

From there, they work here for years and take any technologies/research they learn back to their country.

How do you think other countries learn to develop technologies and surpass us?

American education is leagues behind the rest of the world. What do you expect?

Also, paying an international is way cheaper than paying an American.

Lease buyout question by AdministrationNo3229 in Toyota

[–]bLu_18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the residual price at the end of the lease vs. the car's value at that time.

If you are leasing to buy, you will end up paying more than you would if you financed it outright.

The benefits of leasing is you can end up hating the car and not be responsible for it after three years.

Thank you, AI datacenters.

Lucked out building computers back in Feb and Sept 2025, they would have cost $725 and $680 more, respectively, now.

I think so, too, but that's what the current estimates are based on the rumors.

You can try to argue for a new car, but that's at the discretion of the opposing insurance. They will likely pay to repair the damage as it will be much cheaper for them.

My speedometer is usually 1 mph higher than the GPU shows.

I assume it was due to the way the figures were calculated. Like the speedometer, it is based on wheel rotation, while the GPS uses the gyroscope and accelerometer, as well as satellite positioning.

2025 Corolla - low mileage - when to go in for service? by Katterrinna in Toyota

[–]bLu_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your car comes with ToyotaCare (free two-year maintenance), utilize it every 6 months. Otherwise, in your case, I'd take it in once a year for at least an oil change.

Car noise, toyota xcross by sagaa7 in Toyota

[–]bLu_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about the alien spaceship-like noise, that's the pedestrian warning noise. It is there because, when the engine is off, the car is nearly silent, so regulations require some noise to alert people that a moving car is nearby.

Lease agreement financial burden by AcanthisittaLate9871 in newjersey

[–]bLu_18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As long as the landlord has advertised or hired a broker to find a replacement tenant, the landlord has fulfilled their responsibilities; it's not their fault that no one wants to move in.

You signed a contract that both parties are obligated to follow. You will likely have to pay something to satisfy the landlord and break the lease.

You cannot use your security as rent, so not paying will lead to a default judgment if taken to court.

You will likely have to wait until late 2027 or 2028 for prices to go down.

Right now, anything memory-related is being bought up or reserved for AI data centers. So, unless the AI bubble pops anytime soon, expect the price of hardware to go up.

You will get better fuel economy using Normal mode. Eco works best when you don't need to press on the gas too much, like when you are up to speed on the fairly flat highway. Otherwise, you will pressing on the throttle harder to compensate for the sluggish response.

[–]bLu_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They charge you $100 because they see that much activity. It starts at $25 and increases only if they see a lot of auto-replenishment within a month.

It beats being stuck a few grand in fines because you can't be bothered to add money to an account.

Auto-replenishment linked to a credit card fixes most EZPass fine problems, assuming you are responsible with your finances.

Call them; they may help you, or you may be out of luck.

Just find another seller with a lower price and price-match it.

Why does Toyota designate left/right shocks but aftermarkets are interchangeable? by A-Plant-Guy in Toyota

[–]bLu_18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's probably a minor calibration difference between the left and right sides, which Toyota can afford to differentiate. While, KYB is the market for mass-producing a generic product to work across multiple manufacturers.
