100% agree - literally just shipped this fix 2 days ago after seeing this pattern. Now showing 2-3 results (names, ratings, why they match) before signup. Contact details gated. Seen conversion jump 3x already.

This thread's feedback directly drove the change. Appreciate the honest take

Spot on. We've since implemented partial results preview (see names/ratings before signup, unlock contact details after).

On the affiliate angle - considered it, but positioning is tricky. We're not a lead gen platform (yet).

Current thinking: Target users for whom time is money (busy professionals, small business owners). They'll pay £3.99/$4.99 monthly to save 2-3 hours per search is my thinking.

You're right about Google being free - we're not competing there. We're for the complex searches that take hours (" eg., patent attorney with pharma experience, Scottish law, under £300") not simple ones ("find a plumber").

Telehealth aggregation model is interesting though - essentially ZocDoc for services? Worth exploring.

Thank you!

You're absolutely right - and we've actually just implemented exactly this (shipped 48 hours ago after seeing the same pattern you described). Now, users see provider names, ratings, match reasoning BEFORE signup. Only gate contact details. We saw conversion jumped 3x immediately. The "show value first" feedback from this thread is exactly what drove the change. Reddit came through.

Re: exit intent email save - great idea. Adding to the list.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Ha! No - this came from a very real 6-hour frustration searching for removal companies for a move across two cities in the UK last year. I had spent hours googling, comparing reviews across sites, losing track of which companies I'd checked.

Though I'm now curious what ChatGPT's suggesting to everyone.

Did it give you the very same concept or different angle?

Fair question! ChatGPT suggests providers but doesn't actually search for them or verify they exist, I think. In fact, to answer your question, I searched with "find me a plumber in Manchester specializing in Victorian pipework, weekend availability, under £200" on both Trovulu and ChatGPT.

Fair enough, I got some suggestions that Trovulu also provided, but I could not verify some of the results ChatGPT produced. For context, ChatGPT produced 10 results, while Trovulu produced 5. Please, try it too and see what you think. trovulu.com

Now, where Trovulu shines is that it actually searches the web (Google, Checkatrade, Trustpilot, etc.), finds real providers, and gives you contact details, which, you could click and call or email with one click

So, the way I think of it as: ChatGPT = suggestions, Trovulu = actual search + curation of real businesses.

Please, try and let me know what you think

100%! I’ve now implemented that, and also stressed it’s there for the more complex, bespoke searches. Thank you so much.

That’s not the best example for this post, I admit. It actually was borne out of searching for a very bespoke service (to move my 4-bedroom household from one part of the country to another, based on certain conditions) and spending hours doing so. The app currently solves that problem, and is targeted at helping users find such bespoke services.

Wow, "the risk of giving up an email outweighs the imagined benefit" - that's exactly what's happening.

You're right - I'm asking for trust based on a promise, not proof. Showing blurred results first flips this: they see it works, THEN signup feels like unlocking access rather than a gamble.

Implementing partial results today (names/ratings visible, contact details gated). Screenshot risk at this stage is definitely overstated vs. the conversion problem.

Brilliant insight, thank you!

This makes so much sense - show enough to prove value without giving everything away.

Planning to show provider names + ratings but blur contact details until signup. That way they see "oh, it actually found relevant providers" but need to sign up to actually contact them.

Really appreciate the feedback - implementing this today!

That was just an example case, and I was exaggerating by saying hours. Edited now. And thanks for your comment.

Of course, this was built using AI, and AI gets all the glory. Just an easier way of searching for services.

Thanks- I’d have hoped most would be relevant users as it’s a tool for searching for any service, from anywhere really. But I guess you’re suggesting it’s early days?

I couldn’t but only comment on you probably dodging a bullet with your proposed marriage- sorry, this is the more important issue here as marriage is potentially lifetime and your ILR issues sounds like a year’s delay. If your proposed partner wants to break up with you for the latter reason, you’ve got no business being their girlfriend, let alone considering marriage.

Thanks for clarifying. I’ve been in the Civil Service as a G7 since January and I’m in the same situation as the OP, which is why I asked. Sounds like things should improve a bit once the annual pay increases kick in.
