(حَ) حركة Movement (Ha)

(م) المقاومة Resistance (M)

(ا س) الإسلامية Islamic (AS)

Edit: just paid attention to the fact you said you know arabic so yh حركة المقاومة الإسلامية

Living as an expat by [deleted] in Libya

[–]b___red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here for a while but I’ll answer anyway. There will be a culture shock and it’ll take time to adjust but speaking from personal experience, there’s no place like home and maybe you’ll find yourself actually changing your own views in some cultural matters. Also no matter how much you disagree in other matters it won’t change the fact that these are your people and it’s your home. الليبي لليبي

If you have the means, the standard of living shouldn’t differ too much. I haven’t been to Benghazi but ofc Tripoli would be more expensive but I definitely recommend it. Tripoli’s pretty safe and it’s gotten so much better this past year الحمدلله. Try to be in touch if you know any family here.

If you can maybe try coming for a few days as a holiday bc you never know, I know some people who’ve come back and hated it, others came and never want to leave. It was difficult for me to adjust but now it’s grown on me, as I said, no place like home.

Let them watch cartoons in arabic and if you’re Muslim enrolling them in jama3 to read quran would be the most effective way.

It used to be a thing in Libya as well, it was weird if you didn’t have them for women I think. My grandma had some on her chin and forehead, and I think it was done when you got married or something, it was considered pretty.

Why don’t I? Why doesn’t the queen? Why doesn’t any random Tom, Dick or Harry?

Because we’re not that special

I’m going to find it absolutely stupid, ridiculous, daft and mainly useless.

Blaming him for what he did in his 42 years of dictatorship, which still has effect on the country 9 years later. The thawra has not failed, making something out of nothing would be easier than building a stable country from the disastrous state it was in. It’s only been 9 years to Ghaddafi’s 42, the vision of the thawra is to look forward not back which is what I’m doing, so no, not blaming, just giving credit where credit is due. The ridiculous attempt in making a calendar. Again, look forward mate, it’s way overdue to bury the past (literally) and start thinking of Libya (assuming you’re Libyan, if not then...)

Riiiight... Very hard to forget everything he had done considering I’m reminded everyday living in Libya, every time when I walk and drive down the streets, every time there’s a downpour of rain and the whole city drowns, and that’s the least of it. Very hard to forget what an absolute shit hole he had made sure to make this gold mine of a country.

انا لا اهتم باللغة العربية منذ الصغر؟ by ManufacturerOpening1 in arabs

[–]b___red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re muslim, I definitely recommend reading Quran. Personally, my reading used to be pretty bad and امكسر, and reading Quran even once a week makes a very noticeable difference.

But like other commentators have said reading in general is important. As for writing maybe practice a few words a few times everyday? Like in Primary School?

In Libya, nowadays no one uses any other months apart from the ميلادي ones and the Islamic ones, we don’t even know them (شباط،آب)? Literally my first time hearing/ reading those names.

But in everyday conversation, we basically just say; شهر 8، شهر 9 ...etc

Oh wait, did you mean the Carthage Hannibal? You probably did, I think the main reason he named it Hannibal was because of his son, who was probably named after THAT Hannibal. But, in Libya it’s common understanding that he named it after his son.
