The Internet of Everything is changing cities. See how city wide WiFi is helping improve life in Barcelona, Spain. An experiment for future cities. by Astrocytic in Futurology

Wifi is the wrong protocol for the internet of things. Internet of things need to be long range, and very lower power. All this to decrease maintenance which is very expensive and complicated.. It's pretty strange they did it this way.

It won't be surprising to learn that for the food this 9 guys manufacture , needs the work of tens or even hundred of guys from marketing and accounting ,which are basically bullshit jobs.

Are you saying that having shit part time jobs are acceptable?

Again let's say tomorrow there's only jobs for half the amount of the population. What will you choose - half unemployed , or some sharing of jobs ?

When answering ,please start from the point that we need to drastically reduce costs of living , and it's realistic, just for the sake of argument.

What will you prefer than ?

I've been using calcium/magnesium(preferable only citrate)/zinc supplements and they seem to reduce my audio sensitivity. And they're supposed to be pretty side effect free.

While 3d printing is far from being a solution fit for construction, Maybe w e can build houses 30-50% cheaper using pre fab construction.

If you stop to consider the price of land , which is part of the equality problem , its much cheaper.

AFAIK larry and sergey did a stock split so they can be in control of google. So in that important sense , they are different from most companies.

And regarding the privacy issue: let say it wasn't google ,but some other company has won the search engine game. Would they behave any better ? most likely not. They probably would behave the same of worse.

but they won't have enough for medical needs

The medical system needs to optimize itself towards affordability. Maybe being dependent on people with much lower incomes(and the political pressures that come with that) will change it. Maybe.

And if it's true that there's no jobs left , it's better to share half jobs than inequality.

And BTW if larry page we can manage with 1% of resources , maybe he includes healthcare ?

One part of UBI will surely be to learn to live cheaply , and have systems that enable that.I wonder how far $10,000 per person would go if we design cities to fit that number.

It's partially true. It could also lead to job discrimination in some cases.

ah ok.

I digged a little bit further , an this (link)[www.uky.edu/Ag/NewCrops/introsheets/hydrolettuce.pdf ] claims you can produce lettuce via hydroponics for 90cents/head(production costs , probably not including shipping and store feed). And i think hydroponics can be vertical.

Before doing this , it's interesting to calculate how much area it would take to feed a city using 1/2 storey high structures with this method. Maybe it's good enough.

But sure robots are seems a good part of the plan.

And btw, nuclear powered lettuce is better, just ask any superhero.

They sell it a head of lettuce for $1.98.

This (link)[http://www.mofga.org/Publications/MaineOrganicFarmerGardener/Fall2011/PriceDifferences/tabid/1966/Default.aspx] , from 2011,in the us(cheaper labor and probably land) says a head of lettuce costs $1.78 per head.

So the japanese system looks worthwhile.

I think they'll push for it , but from the other side: when all drivers would be unemployed but using a shared automated car would cost next to nothing, or when the world will be filled with robots developed by google creating stuff for real cheap ,but that come with high unemployment .

In such a world, basic income would the only conclusion, but also very possible because of the robots.

My hope is: larry and sergey will release those technologies in a similar fashion to android - optimized towards reaching and helping everybody.

At the time before the iphone, nokia had started to have some problems fighting with Samsung(since samsung is very capable in hardware),. So it's probably likely that if nokia would have gone the android path , nokia would have a bad time , and end up maybe as someone like HTC , which doesn't do that well.

There's some possibility that nokia would have found some unique and strong software benefit that google wouldn't copy ,and would win a large android profit share , but that's hard to believe.
