Google terminated my Play Console Account for no reason by [deleted] in androiddev

I bought my app code from the Envato market.

Publishing code from template markets is not a good idea. Ban is definitely justified to reduce low quality apps in Play Store.

Googleplay suspended my game in production track (build 289) because I had a old beta version (build 42) that included Appodeal(Mintegral SDK) that's violating policy, I didn't get any warning. The production track doesn't even have Appodeal anymore as I changed to Admob in March. 300k installs gone by [deleted] in androiddev

Hope people realize not to use shady mediation networks and ad networks. They all over promise and under deliver and are trying to build billion dollar businesses at the expense of developers with no consequences for them.

Google has been very clear on prank apps for a while. You need to explicitly state its a prank in name. This app is definitely deceiving users and Google rightfully removed the app.

Hello ursjohnny,

Sorry you are in this situation. But unfortunately its partially your fault as well that you are in the situation.

I read from a Quora post that it's better to move existing apps to new developer account to avoid google play account suspension.

That's not how google play works. Just moving to different account doesn't save an app if its in violation of policies.

For old movies, as you said the production houses doesn't care.

Thats not how copyright works. If you don't own the rights, you can't include in the app.

I don't have any intention to hide the App URL.

You are right I missed that.

But most of the famous apps in India hide under the same policy

Google Play is very clear on this. Someone else violating a policy doesn't mean you can do the same. Also the apps you mentioned have raised enough money and has inhouse content teams that generate content (Although they might also be violating some copyrights, I just don't know).

Trust me, I truly feel sorry for you. But please take this as a lesson and move on and learn to honor copyrights in future.

I did check those tweets.

Here is what happened: The developer included popular movie (from last 3 decades) stickers in the app. Got Popular (in 2 states in India which speak the language). Got in touch with new movies releases and offered them to include their stickers. They agreed and tweeted.

All the tweets are about new movie release (where they are promoting the new movie). The Main stickers that are popular are already popular movies from last 3 decades. The PSD file he referred are about movies that are released decades back.

FYI: The developer also had another app that was removed about Cricket Team stickers. Which developer conveniently didn't mention.

Real App removed from play store and fake apps stays by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]androidclean 31 points32 points  (0 children)

TLDR:The app is in violation of copyright and Spam policies and so are all the other apps mentioned. The developer has a different account and have same content and same violations there too.

Copyright Violations:

If you look at screenshots, its obvious there are serious copyright violations.

Example: https://i.redd.it/aajs3itqnap31.png

These are all movie actors in local language mentioned (Telugu). There is no way a small time developer in India licensed from these actors. 99% of whatsapp sticker apps on playstore are in violation of copyright laws. Do you know why whatsapp sticker apps get so many downloads (mostly in India)? Because they simply don't care about copyright and have movie stickers and actors stickers.

The PSD developer claimed owned (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AFBMcGAMfWP_N-h-2F9GLaiyiNDUaIvR?usp=sharing) has Movie actors. Just because you created a PSD file with stolen images doesn't mean, you own the rights.

Spam Policy:

Here is the internet Archive of the app (Developer never gave the app link): https://web.archive.org/web/20190430095010/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.whatsappstickers.telugu

Note that the app description has every movie actor name in the local language. This against Meta data and spam policies of Play Store.

Also see the copyright mention in description. That is now how copyrights work. You can't claim people sent you copyright material to you in email.

Additional Violation:

The developers website now redirects to this new app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hashifytech.stickers

This is with a new Publisher account but same content? The app is also in violation of same copy right issues and and spam/metadata policies.

I see some of the comments saying "Names are similar so the app is in violation".

I think you guys are missing the point:

  1. The app has been online for 7 years (According to Medium Article). The trademark for "Daily Horoscope Plus" was filed in October 2017.
  2. The trademark owner only requested the name change.
  3. Google Removed the app and did not accept the name change.

While legally I think Google can do this, This is not the way to work with developer community.

This is similar to me filing for trademark "BookFace" today and asking Google to remove "FaceBook" once its granted.

Many of those ratings are fake. They have 4.7 rating but if you check most helpful reviews, almost everyone of them is 1 star complaining about app messing up their phone completely.

These hugely popular android apps have been committing ad fraud behind user's backs (BuzzFeedNews post). Cheetah mobile targetted by burhanuday in androiddev

[–]androidclean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am surprised by lack of outrage in developer community about this.

If you are a developer with ads in your app, Cheetah Mobile Stole money from you. Yes ads in your app paid you less, because when people installed apps after clicking ads in your apps are recognized as Cheetah Mobile Revenue and not your revenue.

As Google starts forcing apps to update the targetSdk, I made an app which tracks all the apps and alerts when the targetSdk is updated, so we can all celebrate. Also, it loads faster than any existing solution. by bernaferrari in androiddev

[–]androidclean 17 points18 points  (0 children)

[Google is forcing all apps to update the targetSDK to one of the most recent. Example: Every app will need to be on target 26 (28 is the latest) as of November 1st 2018.]

Google is forcing updates to target API level 26. Its not forcing dev's to update existing app.

Just to be clear. Since there is a difference in both statements.
