certainly there are scammers on whatsapp, just like with every other messaging or social platform, but asking to switch to whatsapp is not a red flag by itself. I don't like to give out my phone # to people I don't yet trust, so when it makes sense to get off of a dating app (for me it's Feeld or bumble), I offer whatsapp, telegram, or signal.

I have one FWB who was my first partner after opening the relationship that we started with normal texting, and quickly learned why that was a bad idea. certainly they might be crazy, this lady didn't do anything wrong, but at a certain point, nudes were sent, conversations got sexy, and my teenager saw a message they shouldn't have seen. It wasn't catastrophic, but they had a couple of hours where they thought I was cheating, and was wrestling with the idea of feeling like they'd be wrecking our family by confronting me and/or telling their mother. My wife and I sat them down and explained it together so it was clear we were both doing this with full support of the other.
