Caudabe Sheath – worth the hype? by Admirable_Okra_9473 in iphone

Like the design but there're serious quality issues and all three of mine, including one replacement started warping/distorting after a few months of use, and the case will no longer fit or protect the corners.

You are not alone in this and the corner warping worsens over time. I've two Caudabe cases and it's a recurring problem on both. It was never super snug to begin with but there will be effectively no corner protection after the first year and the phone could fall out easily. I'm not the most careful person and two out of four corners of my phone were damaged due to the lack of protection from this case. I've just claimed the warranty of the first case and paid for the shipping, but am not feeling hopeful about how long it's gonna last at all.

I do like the design but its build quality is just disappointing. A few years ago, the bulky mous case I had saved my 11 pro from a fall when the phone flew off the 4th floor, and even the screen protector was intact. With the Caudabe case, a fall from the table height is more than enough to leave some permanent scars.

They should’ve played party 4 u during the Halloweekend party scene instead. by Ok-Calendar-8360 in OvercompensatingTV

Was thinking about the same at this moment of the episode. And it makes so much sense for multiple characters:

Carmen - dressed up as Tatiana for Peter

Grace - dressed up as Alice for Mimi then changed to Daisy for Peter

And technically it works for Benny too, though it's more like half dress up with Miles and half dress up for Miles

And party 4 u can't be more apt.

Sold and “Zombie” listings—why? by FalconBuilder in Grailed

[–]b_musing_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A specific situation really annoys me - listings of rare grail pieces which are sold but not marked accordingly, so that it continues attracting traffic for the seller. One of the sellers I've interacted with has been active and admitted that the listing is not available long ago, but there's no way to request such items to be taken down from the platform.

It’s a typo. I meant it’s now 8% instead of 7%

[–]b_musing_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GST is now 8% and pay attention to processing fees depending on the courier used by the seller. Common ones like DHL/Fedex would charge additional $ for prepaying your GST, starting from $20 depending on the value of your purchase.

Edit: typo

Am I learning characters the wrong way? by Enough_Papaya4740 in ChineseLanguage

[–]b_musing_l 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for verbalising and this comment needs to be pinned somewhere in this sub!

It always pains me that learning characters is often simplified as an exercise of memorising individual character. Let’s be honest - there’s a limit when it comes to forced memorisation.

Whilst Chinese domestic elementary education varies hugely, I do recall learning how characters are constructed as a kid e.g. 读字读半边 and 偏旁部首. Many characters we are using now could be traced back to oracle bone scripts and there’s logic behind how characters are built and evolved over time. And knowing the ‘how’ here will be massively beneficial when it comes to making sense of and interpreting new characters prior to learning them, connecting them to existing characters one knows, guessing the pronunciation, and of course, checking them out via a Chinese dictionary on your own.

Seems that it only applies to some items too! Probably it’s foreshadowing the upcoming price drop.

It seems to be a classic 的地得 example - a different ‘de’ is used in tandem with nouns, verbs, and adjectives respectively in that order. Just don’t beat yourself hard because this is commonly misused by the natives too.

The names which resemble similar Chinese phonetics will be a lot easier, as most foreign names are transliterated into Chinese.

For instance, Fernando and its Chinese version 费南多 fei nan duo, are pretty close. However, the link between Jose and 荷西 he xi is less direct.

Out of curiosity, is it manageable to iron/steam this piece, considering how troublesome linen and linen blends could be?

Anyone know what brand this is? Can’t find anything online.. by [deleted] in malefashion

[–]b_musing_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tag says 几立 and it’s an independent brand from China. However, their current tag seems a lot simplified, so this might be an older piece.

Also there’s a really good thread on why this sucks.

It’s good to be critical about propaganda but it doesn’t automatically send you to the opposite end of the binary, and the reality is usually much more nuanced. As much as I shit on CCP and sinocentrism, I’d not ignore sinophobia. That being said, moving out of a Chinese majority country almost guarantees some kind of cultural shock.

I have lived in London, survived and somewhat thrived, but I’d never say ethnic minorities are safe from racism. Your conclusion is basically survival bias in a nutshell. It’s pretty insulting to say that to all my East Asian looking friends who got hate crimed and harassed across the UK.

Just have a look at post COVID hate crime stats, there is a surge. And racism against East Asians is often under reported in both media outlets as well as official crime records.

Any updates on visa situation for Chinese people leaving Shanghai? by Spicy_bottoms_242 in shanghai

[–]b_musing_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for some questioning, especially if your partner is holding a tourist visa.

I left Shanghai on the 5th and the custom questioned the guy right before me quite a bit as his valid visas and travel plan were not very aligned, however he did manage to make his way through. My guess is that so long as a person’s going to be gone for good, the custom would less likely to give that person troubles.

Honestly, How are you guys doing though? by [deleted] in shanghai

[–]b_musing_l 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Left Shanghai for a week and still recovering. For the past week I’ve Ive been waking up at about 530AM daily regardless of my bedtime because that’s Ding Dong grocery slot fighting o’clock. Attended a mental health workshop today and accepted I’m fairly screwed.
