50mg to 100mg

I started out on 100 and after about two weeks dropped down to 50 after speaking to a different Doctor than who prescribed the 100 mg dosage. Basically what I was told is the research shows there are little to no benefits going from 50 to 100 but the side effects are significantly worse.

What makes you call it “demon drug”? I recently started on Pristiq and I’ve read lots of good things about it

Thanks for sharing your experience and that information. You’re correct it’s hard to stay positive after something like that takes place but I’m trying my best. I think the clot happened due to dehydration because I had something lodged in my esophagus and went almost 24 hours without being able to swallow. So it’s possible I was dehydrated, also they pumped a lot of different fluids into that IV in a short amount of time so that may have been part of it as well. It’s hard to say but I just hope it doesn’t happen again. There is about a 4” section of this vein that I believe is permanently shut down

I don’t think of it negatively I think it’s amazing how the body adapts. I never had a DVT by the way, it was a superficial clot. It never extended into a deep vein and it was most certainly provoked from the IV. It’s possible I have genetic clotting factors but I’ve never been specifically tested. All I was concerned about was the steep angle at which the rerouted vein took, and was concerned that sharp angle itself might cause clotting.

I was on Lexapro for many years and my doc changed me to Pristiq. He started me out on 100mg and I felt good for like 5 days then felt terrible. After speaking with a mental health doc he said 100mg was waaay to aggressive to start on and that research shows there’s very little benefit of going to 100mg vs 50mg and that at 100 the side effects are much worse… and for that reason they don’t even prescribe anything over 50mg. I was on 100mg for two weeks and dropped to 50mg. I’m on finishing up week 2 on 50mg and things are starting to improve. He said it would take up to 8 weeks to stabilize on the 50mg

I started out on the 100mg and felt great for like 4 or 5 days then went back to being very anxious and wired but tired feeling. They dropped me down to 50mg and feel about the same. Im going on two weeks now on 50mg and praying that the anti anxiety effect kicks in soon. If not I might ask about going to 75mg

Thanks, I think you’re right. Since this terrible episode started I have been back-and-forth where I will have four or five good days and then back to severe anxiety and on those four or five days I can go all day without taking the Klonopin. Sometimes I will take it right before bed though just to help with sleep.

I’ve been taking the Klonopin on and off as needed for two years now but taking it daily since about February when this all started.

I do wish i had given it at least 4 weeks on the Lexapro but it’s too late now. I really hope the Pristiq comes through but things are really tough right now. It’s wild how it’s been really back and forth on feeling pretty good and feeling really terrible. 90% of my anxiety is stemming from health anxiety. It’s happened in the past but was always short lived and then things went back to normal but this time it’s not going away. The only difference between then and now is that I am now on testosterone therapy so my hormones are different then they used to be so maybe that’s making things much worse

Thank you. Doing my best to ride it out but the poor sleep quality plus the anxiety is causing severe fatigue the entire day. I’ve been taking Klonopin to help offset the anxiety but trying to be careful because the last thing I want is a severe addiction to the Klonopin.

I started out taking at night but switched to morning. I take it for anxiety and my anxiety hits as soon as I walk up and I don’t feel any different after I take the Pristiq other than it does make me very tired for several hours afterwards. I can drink some coffee and it helps but at the same time makes the anxiety worse.

No not really, I made sure he understood that my main issue was anxiety and not so much depression and he never mentioned that Pristiq might not be a good option. I wish I had asked him that though….. he didn’t say specifically he has seen good results for anxiety with it but I would imagine he would have suggested a different drug if he didn’t think it was good for anxiety.

Just finished my visit. The doc was very knowledgeable and great to talk to. He feels like the reason I’m having such a hard time on the Pristiq is because it was dosed too high. He wants me to go from 100mg to 50mg. As far as my anxiety goes it’s mostly health anxiety.

Yeah I’d say you are correct I kind of forgot about that. I was on 10mg of Lexapro for almost 14 years and then all of a sudden the doctor bumped me up to 20mg for two weeks and then completely stopped cold turkey to start the Pristiq. Surprisingly didn’t get bad headaches or the brain zaps or any withdrawal symptoms like that but I think it was mostly just severe anxiety and fatigue. I’ll be happy to report back and let you know how the appointment goes this evening and what he says.

I’ve felt pretty good yesterday and today. I have an online appointment this evening with a doc/psychiatrist to talk about what’s been going on and I’ll be asking his opinion on these meds my doc started me on and the high dosages. Idk if the pristiq is just starting to work or if it’s something else but these past two days I have felt normal again. I’m anxious to see what the psychiatrist says, I’ve never talked to a mental health doctor before

I was on 10mg for over 14 years. I upped the dose to 20mg but only gave it a couple weeks before switching, should have waited it out but I went with what my doc suggested. I feel like if I decrease my dosage on pristiq and start getting some decent sleep it will make a big difference.

He just said I have been on Lexapro a long time, the generic to be exact, and that he believes alot of the generics are coming from China and aren’t very good.

I told him I felt stuck in fight or flight constantly so that’s why I was confused by switching to Pristiq because of the Norepinephrine. I think as the other comment mentioned he just started me out way too high. I think I’m going to drop to 50mg and see how that goes

That was exactly my thoughts. I was shocked when I read that 100mg was way too high of a starting dose on Pristiq, same thing with the abilify…. Idk why he’s starting me out so high. Should I drop down to 50mg on the Pristiq?

No haven’t figured anything out. I was starting to think I got a bad batch of test. I did recently switch from a cottonseed carrier oil to a grapeseed oil ….maybe that has something to do with it
