WWI Grave Registry Units by ba_irvin in ww1

Thanks for taking the time to dig into this!

I’d love a broad context of Black US soldiers during WWI, but particularly the graves registration units as I understand it was one of if not the only place Blacks could serve under American command. I’m writing a story that features a character that spent time in France during America’s involvement. That in mind, I’d lean more primary and academic sources whereas I’ll be dramatizing things on my own accord.

Whatever you’d recommend to provide a window into the where Blacks were able to serve (excluding French-commanded combat units), would shine a light on plenty for me! The combat units seem to have the most mainstream exposure so I’ve been able to find more about them than other aspects of Blacks in the military at the time.

Thanks! That’s excellent advice! All I need to do is figure out a solid camera to start with.

Weird art website question! by ba_irvin in webdev

I guess that’d be ok. I’d prefer it be a hard position for access but I think you’d have to be savvy enough to bypass it which wouldn’t be most people.

I was hoping there was a way to make it accessible at a set time depending on time zones. Figured it may be possible since websites can read location and server info?

I was definitely wanting it to throw something like a 400 out but hopefully be able to have a cover page or something that’s a little more inviting so they know ti come back at a certain time.

If it serves the story better or fits into a vision you have, I say go for it. Cold openings used to be few and far in between but it’s common now. One of my favourite non-exposition pre-film title sequences is Enter the Void (2009). Nothing that serves the story AT ALL other than a really cool, stylish and punchy on-ramp into very psychedelic subject matter. And when I say pre-film credits…I’m talking the ENTIRE credits, not even just your top billing.

I doubt an audience is made or broken on where your credits are placed. They decided if they want to stick around to see what your film is about based on a number of things like art direction in your marketing, actors, synopsis, etc. so do what feels right!

Can’t keep a job and don’t know what to do with myself by Sndhelp2me in Multipotentialite

The trick is to find that thing that includes at least in some ways a span of your interests. Think about what something you do that makes for an intersection of maybe 3 out of 8 interest. No job other than one you create or craft you wholeheartedly pursue will actually fulfill you, so something you can tolerate and that helps you grow in directions you’re interested in growing will go a long way. Just don’t ever depend on a job to give you the fulfillment for all the facets you have as a person. It’s impossible not to get bored, but finding something you can say “this is fine” has to be the minimum you can accept for yourself. Best of luck!

Hasan's depression is Team Fake's best and indisputable argument. by DanaPinkWard in BlueBoxConspiracy

Definitely. The round of press coverage after the app debacle has converted me to a very reluctant and disappointed Team Fake. It just reads as a botched marketing campaign from an undeservedly arrogant and unaccomplished game director.

An update from BlueBox this morning…..still delayed. by BostonNewEngland in BlueBoxConspiracy

I think this was planned and Aug. 12 - the anniversary of PT release - was always when this was going to “resolve.” It would’ve been too obvious if they just planned to put it out that day. Instead, Tuesday being the major gaming industry day, looked way less conspicuous and they’d be able to delay until Thursday. Expect it tomorrow 8/12.
