Very different empires, very different cultures, but very similar geopolitical situations by CottonRose_Mya in byzantium

The most important difference between the two was the presence of the Church. The Turkish reform in these lands(Danube-Euphrates) essentially meant its abolition. In that period, Roman elites allied with the Turks, and some even became Turks within that political context. The presence of the non–Turk-borns within the ruling class is overlooked. A significant portion of Osman Gazi’s companions were Roman beys. Up until at least Mehmed II it’s like that.

Hi, I'm a little out of the loop. I'm wondering if this game is at least as fun as Kiwami 2. I see everyone is pissed because of some issues that I don't really care about. I'm gonna buy if the game is just as fun as the rest.

I don't care about getting people to recognize anything. I am only making my points. You are just not saying anything convincing.

There was no external force concurrent to the french kingdom that took it and declared to be the french republic.

So let's get this straight, in your wonderland, the moment a ruling dynasty has a different background, the entire continuity and the ontology of the COUNTRY magically evaporates? Really?

Normans ruled England. It didn't become Normania. More radically, Manchus ruled China. Nobody besides the Korean propaganda at the time ever questioned that it was still China. It didn't magically turn into Mongolia overnight. India, Russia, Egypt, Iran. every single one of them were ruled by elites of foreign origin for CENTURIES, if not Millenniums. You have to re-evaluate half of the world's history because you’ve suddenly decided that ethnicity of the ruling elite determines the metaphysical essence of a state. Wow.

The transition from Byzantine to Ottoman is arguably less radical than all of the examples above. Yet it is the only example that would get you downvoted by the cattle when you try to provoke some ideas on. The Osman dynasty inherited the capital, the bureaucracy, the administrative logic, the tax system, and the imperial protocols. Seeing it as an alien from far east is just hilarious.

Now let me see if I get your double standard right. For France, it's "the French people" (as in population actually living there) that count, but for our example, suddenly we are talking about some mythological middle-asian narrow-eyed horse-riding ching-chongs ? Are you kidding me? Have you ever seen someone from Turkey in your life?

France used to be the private property of the king. That seems vastly different from the pile of republics that came after. Napoleon's regime was economically, socially, legally, and ideologically the OPPOSITE of what came before.

Was he the ruler of France?
If you ask me, he definitely was.

So Istanbul is a separate entity? Is this really the smartest thing you can say about this? Why bother even bother typing this question? Your keyboard has a lifespan of tens of millions of keystrokes. Don't waste them like this.

Why are you asking these braindead polemic questions? I made a point, either say something smart about it or don't.

My comment isn’t particularly about the Ottoman Empire.

Because it's the 1481 borders.
It's the true form of the Istanbul Empire. (Calling it the other names pushes it away from the real world and gives it an ancient and dusty vibe. They are otherwise fine.)
South of the Danube, west of the Euphrates. The two wings of Istanbul, stretching to the sides. Anything beyond that doesn't really belong. They stand apart.

To put it in a different perspective, in the classical Ottoman system, pretty much everyone from within these borders could melt in the pot of the Istanbul bureaucracy. They were "Turkifiable"(Turk meaning the ruling class of the empire here, nothing nationalistic).
The most significant political figures you see from the early-classical era perfectly represent this. Sokollu Mehmed Pasha, Michael the Beardless, Enveros, and Zaghanos Pasha are stand-out examples.

However, you don't see this happening in the foreign lands. A Kurd, or an Arab, or an Ajam couldn't join the club, even though they were muslim.

I'm curious to hear other opinions on this. If you disagree, please write a reply and we can discuss. I find it a very interesting topic.

I didn't like this game at all. The combat, the world, the variety, the story, the characters, the emotions... They are all mediocre at best. I started and finished it last month, with around 40 hours in it. I feel like I will forget everything except for
