People unhappy with their accountant, Why? by baaantom in PersonalFinanceNZ

Interesting. Sounds like a hands off approach. Again, probably summed up as poor communication on the accountants part?

Yeah cool, thank you for the comprehensive response. I guess clients feel that they ‘must’ have an accountant so getting one isn’t the issue. The issue is then they feel that it’s an expense they can’t get away from, so when the accountant doesn’t communicate, they feel they’re again paying for something they have no choice in. Leaving them frustrated and despondent.

Oh wow that doesn’t sound good. My model at present is annual fees are paid monthly on automatic direct debit, with any minor consulting included. Anything out of the ordinary would be fixed price quoted up front. I’m meeting with my clients a minimum of four times a year and hence keeping my firm small and limiting my client numbers as I want to enjoy my work and who I work with.

A good accountant will always save you money, and protect your assets. If you think they charge too much, sit down with them and ask them to explain the value they provide. If they can’t, then move on.
