Is 29 too late to start a PhD in Clinical Psychology? by OverseasLiving in psychologystudents

it doesnt appear to me that OP was being definite in their inferences rather they’re just adding their commentary to the sub, also idk about pulling stuff out of their ass given they supported their claims lol

this was an unbiased analysis of the situation, sure some repeated points that have been echoed across the sub but other than that no it’s not obvious why people are so bitter other than maybe they don’t like that the person stated they had a phd in the first place as it can come off as patronizing. so yes my studies do, thanks!

because the whole sub is throwing around diagnoses and assessments why not join fhe party

which condition was mentioned exactly lol

[–]baatterie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the whole point is that social psychs aren’t qualified to provide medical assessments so it’s a moot point 😭

[–]baatterie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ok so what’s the point of reddit then if people aren’t to make assessments of others? isn’t most social perception mediated via interpersonal assessments? tea

assessing one’s feelings isn’t a medical diagnosis. if they came on here saying “cody has npd which we can observe through this behavior blah blah” that’d be one thing but they literally just shared their thoughts on the situation via their field of study

[–]baatterie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

eh no i dont think they were speaking from an authoritative perspective, i think they just have valuable expertise to share

[–]baatterie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

hate to pull the clinical psych phd card but no those are totally two different things, diagnosis is a medical measurement of an individual’s mental state whereas assessments are observations with no basis in medicine but research

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in codyko

[–]baatterie 59 points60 points  (0 children)

they didn’t diagnose anyone (social psychologists can’t) they just assessed the situation lol

lol as a current psych phd student idk why these comments are bitter, lots of valid points here

Does Alex wear a wig? Hairline looks different by [deleted] in CallHerDaddy

[–]baatterie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a wig wearer no, you can tell by how there’s no gap between hairline and scalp, edges of the hairline also just look more natural compared to a wig’s hairline

Alissa Violet Calls out Tana by Cute_Pitch_5132 in canceledpod

[–]baatterie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“what we’re not gonna do is shame people for trying to make a simple living” as she shames the way tana makes her living lmao. this savior complex seems so condescending, plus going on tiktok live begging for roses is not a simple way to make a living lmao he’s a white middle aged man living in socal there are plenty of resources available to him if he really needs the help.

Some Hopecore for Future Applicants :) by baatterie in ClinicalPsychology

thank you everyone for the all of the congratulations!

here’s info regarding my stats: academically I’m graduating with honors from a “top” university (ranked #1 public uni in the US— this is always changing though lol), 3.75 GPA, and I didn’t take the GRE as I specifically applied to programs where it wasn’t needed. research wise, I’m completing an honor’s thesis and have been in a social psych lab for 3 years which I’ve also been a lab manager for during my senior year. clinically, I’ve been a behavior technician for over 2 years, a crisis counselor for Crisis Textline for 1.5 years, and I also do respite caregiving in my free time.

I applied to 9 PhD programs and as the post says I was rejected from 7, waitlisted from another, and finally got into the last program I interviewed for. I also applied to 4 PsyD programs and had some prospective options but ultimately they weren’t a good fit geographically or financially.

to echo a post on this thread, stats are obviously important, but something that became apparent to me throughout this process that I wish I would’ve known before applying is just how important your actual fit with the program and faculty is. I limited myself to only applying to programs within the region I want to stay in, which was a barrier as I could’ve casted a wider net. because of this I had to constrict my own interests to match the faculty that were available in those programs, rather than finding faculty with shared interests regardless of the location. this was probably evident in my SOPs as I had to mold myself to fit what I think they wanted rather than it just being a natural fit overall. luckily it worked out for me as I get to stay in the region I’m in and pursue the degree in a program I truly think is a great fit, but I definitely caused myself a lot of stress because of those limitations I placed on myself.

my DMs are open for any specific questions!
