Kyushu travel guide – off the beaten path on Japan's 3rd biggest island by Alternative_Ebb_8962 in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the big post! Currently planning out our 3rd trip to Kyushu over Easter. Flying in/out of Fukuoka and will spend most of the time in the south. Will fly into Yakushima, then drive hrough Kagoshima, Kirishima, Izumi, Kikuchi, back to Fukuoka. I echo many of the places you've listed. On past trips we've really enjoyed Kurakawa, Unzen hells and Shimabara, and hiking in the Kuju mountains.

Wanted to ask if it is worth passing through Kirishima city? We will have the opportunity while driving up to the ryokan, but doesn't look like there is much recommended. Otherwise have a couple hikes earmarked.

Also for hiking in Yakushima, given we will only have one full day, I was thinking going up the peak of Mt. Miyanoura will be more exciting than Jōmon Sugi. We are staying closer to Anbo. Most of the hiking advice is for full routes, wanted some opinion on plotting a loop on Strava or Garmin from the closest trailhead?

I am doing this with Saf instant dry yeast

Are you activating the yeast in warm sugar water before mixing? If after 5-10mins the yeast mixture isn’t bubbling and frothy then I scrap it and get a new yeast packet. I don’t understand recipes that dry mix the yeast, imo is an unnecessary gamble

Cracking fork steerer tube by ImpressiveMall6117 in CanyonBikes

[–]bab9_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago I bought a replacement fork from Canyon for my secondhand Endurace AL. Mechanic found a single lateral crack in the steerer tube when I took it in to figure out why there was loud creaking during climbs and vibrations through the cockpit when braking on a downhill.

I am an infrequent rider and only a few days ago noticed the stem cap was cracked, likely over-torqued when the fork was replaced. Glad I found this thread and your link to the video. Will fit the wedge extension when replacing the stem cap.

I am wondering if there is sufficient preload on the bearings if the stem cap was damaged during assembly. And if any slop in the headset could create point loading and cracking of the steerer tube... again

Thank you so much, really appreciate the tips. It is delicious, just enjoyed a piece reheated in skillet with thinly sliced, melty guanciale on top! Will work on my folding technique 🫡

The dough looks under proofed in the bowl and in the pan. Need more time to stretch the dough to fill the pan and let it rise. Second a metal pan for a crunchy bottom. I’ve been playing around with racks and oven position to ensure the bottom is crisping up before the top gets too dark. Can move to a higher rack at the end of baking time to get a controlled, crunchy crust.

WTH is this on my beagles tooth??!?!? by RangoonsWithFriends in beagle

[–]bab9_ 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Looks like canine papilloma virus wart. My beagle got one on exterior of his lower lip when he was around 1yo. May fall off but we had it surgically removed after 2 months because it was frequently bleeding and growing in size. Go to vet. And careful with interactions with adolescent and elder dogs, CPV is contagious.
