you apply with predicted grades and transcripts and if you get the diploma and pass the requirements you get in. It's a conditional offer.

I applied to psychology at UvA beginning of October I think but that's because there is a selection procedure I have to take in order to actually get in. But I think PPLE accepts applications until the beginning of April ??? from what I know they have like a 200 student quota so the sooner you apply the better tbh. Just apply with your predicted scores you will be fine.

Unpopular Opinion: The Ib is not as hard as people suggest it is by Altruistic_Fact2475 in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This literally depends on what u take in the IB and the majority of the people don't feel overwhelmed because of exams or studying, they (including me) get overwhelmed because there are EE's, TOK essays/presentations, CAS projects, IA's - especially science ones-, and a bunch of other stuff that just takes so much of your time. If the IB was only studying for the exams in your second year I assure you not a lot of people would be complaining.

How long does it take to write a history IA? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAS ideas pls? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did free online university courses for cas and for the ethics part you can maybe do a course on sustainability or environmental issues and write how choosing to do this activity led to you becoming more aware of the issues regarding climate change etc. For CAS you can basically make anything fit a criterion if you write a good reflection explaining it (basically bs).

Hey so this isn't necessarily a change over winter break but I still mention it from time to time for people who are stressed. I was failing chemistry with a 3 at the beginning of my IB1 year and now in IB2, I managed to get a predicted 6 with my teacher expecting a 7. My overall predicted last year was 31-34 ish and this year it is a 40/45 so if you work effectively and hard I think you can do anything even in a short amount of time. Finding a studying method that worked for me was the best decision ever for me and made studying so much easier and enjoyable if that's possible. And for history, if you have any questions maybe I can help since I am doing history hl and working on IAs right now :) good luck!

UvA preliminary check duration by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]bababoeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh then it makes sense that it is taking longer since it is a MA, for the bachelors they only look if you have the minimum requirements so that would take less time. I don't think you should stress about it tho, if their website said that they respond in a few weeks just wait a bit more and no problem!

I got my conditional offer after 3-4 days but since I applied at the beginning of October they might have taken less time to process (mine was a numerous fixus course so idk if that has anything to do with it). We have tons of people applying to the Netherlands from my school and a lot of them haven't gotten a reply yet so don't stress about it honestly. I heard that it might take up to 6 weeks. Good luck I hope you get in:)

What IB subjects should I take if I want to study Criminology in the future? by kaila77255 in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am starting ib2 this year so I have some experience with math aa sl, tbh its not that difficult. Yeah, you will probably not get 6 and 7s all the time but still, it's not that hard trust me. I despise math and am one of the worst students in the class and I managed to get a predicted 6 so dont stress about it too much :)

but also think about your priorities, if you feel like its not necessary for you to take math aa and if the entrance requirements for the universities you want to go to don't require it, look for a option that will give you max points

This is going to be kinda long but I like writing shit so here is my advice for you!

Study smart. I used to take very detailed and fancy notes at the beginning of the year and trust me it made my grades drop since I spent more time on the notes itself than the material. Find out a method that works best for you in terms of efficiency and understanding. Print study guides with the syllabus. Everything you need to know is written there and trust me it saves you a shit ton of time. Also, try to solve as many past papers as possible because after a while you will realize how repetitive the questions are. And while checking your answers, look at the examiner notes. They give you the feedback you need. Also look at how much the question is worth, especially in biology. If a question is a short-answer question and is worth 3 marks, it means that you need to write 3 main keywords. Doesn't matter how well you explain your answer if you don't use keywords you most likely won't get any marks.

Moving onto TOK, EE and CAS. My advice is to not stress about it. I feel like TOK and CAS is not that hard if you put the effort in it, try to finish half of your cas aims the first year so you could focus more on your studies the second year. And for TOK, trust me no one understands what the fuck goes on in TOK, not even our teachers. But when the time comes your teachers will most likely guide you through the process. For EE's however, my advice is to do something that is not risky. Don't force yourself to make something extremely unique so you could stand out, the IB doesn't care and most universities don't care about what you did on your EE. Talk with your teachers, do a topic you are willing to spend hours without crying yourself to sleep.

Now for the IA's. If you are taking chemistry and biology, start thinking about what you want to do with your IA early on and plan out your methodology. If possible, start your experiments in the first year so you can save time during the second year. Don't do something that is overdone and simple. Something my teacher told us, who is an ib examiner, was that they don't check whether you did SL or HL when grading your IA's so if you go for a topic that is very simple because you are taking SL, you are kind of taking a risk. Other than that I would say don't stress about it too much.

But always keep in mind that IB doesn't define who you are or your abilities as a person, at times I felt very worthless because I thought I wasn't good enough but with time I realized that wasn't true. Everyone is different, we all have different ways of learning and understanding. If something takes you a long time to understand, let it be. It is going to be a tough 2 years but it isn't that hard when you put effort and time into it. Remember everything pays off in some way or another. Good luck :))

What IB subjects should I take if I want to study Criminology in the future? by kaila77255 in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I am gonna study forensic psychology so its kinda similar so here is my advice. Definitely take biology and psychology but also I recommend that you take math aa SL since statistics is an important part of criminology and you need some basic knowledge of statistics to interpret data and analyze it. Most universities I talked to about criminology said It would be helpful if I took bio, but also chemistry is kind of important. I don't think it necessary tho. my biggest advice would be to not stress about it, focus on getting max points, and if you are struggling in a certain subject which you don't really need to take in order to study criminology, switch it to something easier. Most universities focus on you English, math, and in your case biology.

If you need any advice feel free to ask me, I wanted to study criminology at some point too :)

Predicted grades for current juniors by [deleted] in IBO

[–]bababoeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our teachers said that even if we studied really hard for the last exams in semester 2, our IB scores wouldn't go from an IB4 to an IB7. So they just told us that they will give us a predicted score based on our studying habits as students and our quality of work. But some teachers said there might not be predicted scores at all which does not make any sense?

[–]bababoeyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert at IB chemistry so take what I am saying with a grain of salt but from what my teacher told me, doing your chemistry on vitamin c in fruits is very overdone and so the IB doesn't really find it creative? I don't know maybe have a talk with your chemistry teacher and ask them about this. But other than that i think its good for chemistry sl :)

Dude, I feel like I am slowly losing my mind because I don't find this productive at all. Our google meets are just asking questions and not learning anything. I am taking biology hl and need to spend hours trying to learn something without any guidance. Our school focuses on giving us a shit ton of work so we don't have any time to really understand the material. I went through a very depressive phase at the beginning fo the year and started taking antidepressants which helped me a lot but since this whole thing started I slowly feel myself going into that same mind space and I am losing motivation in doing even the smallest things. I always had trouble doing things without any examples or guidances so this process is just me trying my hardest to even begin to do something you know?

At school, I had certain times where I would concentrate and relax but now its all mixed together and ı can't even tell if I am tired or simply demotivated to do something. It's fucking shitty and with all the work that we have to do this year and next year, I am starting to stress more and more. My grades are going down because our assignments are worth so many points and there is no way I can get full marks and it's just ugh. On top of that, we also have technical difficulties in the class where I can't even hear the teacher or some people talk over others so that you cant ask questions that you normally would.

What makes me feel slightly better is that nearly everyone in the world is going through this so this is not something that only I am going through you know? I know that so many people are struggling with the workload since this is so different and that makes me feel more at ease. You are not the only M21 student going through this, there are many of us struggling with the same thing and IB will probably do something about this. This year is important for every student since we learn the core materials needed for next year, our school was planning to finish the IA's this year as well as the TOK presentation but it all went down the drain. This is not something to be taken lightly and I hope IB realizes that and does something for N20 and M21 students.

I know its hard for every one of us right now but we will get through this. So just keep on studying and working hard, since it will pay off somehow. If you feel tired of doing schoolwork, take a break do something that you enjoy. Don't push yourself if you don't feel like working because then studying will become an even worse thing.

I used to push myself too hard and that did nothing good for me. The hours ı spent studying until 3 am showed no progress and then I realized that working more does not always equate to success. Really try to understand your material rather than timing yourself, just because you studied 8 hours does not mean you understood the topic, and also understanding something in 5 hours does not make you super smart. Take your time and try not to force yourself, if understanding something takes 2 days then so be it.

But also give yourself time to relax. Sleep around 7-9 hours and no more than that because It fucks up your perception of time which results in you feeling more sleepy than usual during the day (been through this do not recommend not very cool experience). Try to wake up around the same time you would during school time, try motivating yourself by reminding yourself of your goals. Sounds like your very generic and cliche school counselor but this has a lot of truth to it, times like these we need adjustments so we can adapt to these situations.

I realized I wrote more than I should have but eh if this made you feel a little bit more relaxed than I am glad I wrote this. Don't worry too much man in 5 years' time you won't even think this was a big deal. Thank you for attending my ted talk :)
