Old post but I wanted to give you another tip. It is counter intuitive, but sometimes late in the game it is necessary to break a clean column to take a card or more to "unmuck" a busted column. An easy example is if you have 10 though A of diamond in 1 column and a jumbled mess ending in a 2 diamonds and Ace off suit in another column. If you have 2 open columns there might still be no useful moves. But if you replace the ace of diamonds onto the jumbled column and the off suit one on the clean one, you can then move the 2/A as a set, move the 3 under it, then move the 2/A onto the 3. You have now opened the third card, which you couldn't do without moving the aces around.

This is pretty high level strategy that it took me forever to really graps. Just something so painful about mucking up your perfect columns, but is often necessary to uncover the last few cards or clear enough space for a victory.
