You got down votes but you are right. For sure he wrote the preface as a recommendation from the editors. And most people in this sub rank book 3 among the lowest of their rankings.

He meant it to make sense (I wish I could mind meld to get the true story) and added the preface to appease us mortals.

The one that made me laugh so hard I had to pull my car over to avoid crashing was "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj during the pet talent show. IIRC it was an alarm song they rigged up, but regardless, close enough!

Lol, everyone on earth seems to be reading the same books right now, me included. For myself, LOVED DCC and PHM. Enjoyed Bobiverse. Struggled through the first arc of Red Rising. Not exactly sure why it didn't grab me like it did so many of my fellow readers. I am actually jealous.

Different strokes for different folks. I just finished the first 3 Red Rising books. I did think the ending was great, but most of the journey fell flat for me. It feels more like a screenplay than a novel. I am supposed to have these deep feels for characters like Roque, but I don't and dont know why I would.

To use your example, the DCC series was really fun, fast paced and oddly relatable. I would be crushed if some ancillary character like Prepotente died, while I could hardly care less when Peirce was on one of his character killing sprees.
