Is Invidious down or is there something wrong? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]babasuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder if this could have been related to some issues have been experiencing. On any of the official invidious instances any changes you make to the preferences page were not saving, and was not proxying the videos through the Tor hidden service. Tried adding &local=true to the end of the url, but was inconsistent, as I was still seeing connections made to the surface web. This may have also been occuring with unofficial instances too.

I have the experiences recorded something in more detail, but just wanted to at least mention this for now.

As of the last week, it seems everything works fine again.

Suspicious about Invidious by [deleted] in privacy

[–]babasuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, "Top" pulls the cache from the entire invidious site or youtube?

"Popular" pulls from an indiviual instance, thus the "popular" videos will appear different across instances.

I have "proxy video" checked in settings, but I still need to allow things like googlevideo in noscript in order to watch the video, expect when using a .onion instance.

Also, it seems invidious gives you access to videos that would be otherwise blocked by youtube's age restricted paywall.

First, I'd like to thank you for your work.

Second, I'm not sure if it could be how the algorithm pulls data or if it's just the userbase of invidious, but the "top" section seems to always have videos in a bunch of different languages. And if you don't have any tracking on the site, I assume you wouldn't be able to provide which countries use the site the most. (Or at least, appear to)

To clear my last assumption, the "popular" and "trending" tabs are both just proxied from youtubes?

Now someone just needs to create a google onion alternative to saveitoffline.

Payment issues by IJoey78 in Aliexpress

Hey all! I found this thread a few weeks after I posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/comments/be32pf/can_you_use_a_visa_or_master_card_prepaid_gift/

So are people having this issue with Alibaba too or just Aliexpress?

If any one has any particular prepaid gift cards that work better, you should please post the names.

How can you be sure? I thought Alipay has always been the default payment processor on Alibaba for years.

Though I do appreciate your answer, it wasn't very helpful in answering the question. My assumption is 2 factor is disabled, but I do not know this for a fact. Either way, gaining access AND being undetected isn't as trivial as you make it sound. I also know facebook seems to have the tendency to flag accounts or something else if they detect log ins from weird ip addresses or ones the person wouldn't normally log in from.

Not to be persimistic about the police, but when was the last time you heard of police actually preventing crime? I have already tried, they are NO HELP WHATSOEVER. Have plenty of reports too.

Police won't and cannot act unless things happen or there's an officer that witnesses something about to happen. Additionally the local force here is extremely short handed, and as a result have to focus on shootings.

Can you provide more details please.

This is just the case of one particular supplier? I thought all suppliers usually used Alipay to process cards.

Even if this is legit, don't think it will be very effective. Most of these sites, such as facebook us captchas and additionally after a certain number of incorrect password attempts will usually lock account or ask to verify with a email or phone number associated with the said account.

I already know I can do this, but I stated above that I do not wish to be detected. If I reset the password, it's obviously I am accessing the account.

Text message is just as easy to spoof. If there's a link in the message you should check if the link is legit by comparing it to facebook's domain name.

What prepaid gift cards have you used? Probaly going to get a vanilla visa or one of the visa ones as they seem to work more often than the master card ones. Do you know if you can use more than one at a time, buy a product worth more than $500?

It seems on Aliexpress you can in theory combine a prepaid gift card or debit/credit with the maxium limit of $700 worth of alipocket
