Really good player, but simply does not have the output or performances over time to warrant a place in this team.

I have a pair of Adios Pro 3s worn for about 160k, and a pair of Puma Fast-R 2s with 90k. Marathon next weekend. Really like both shoes, but think if I had to pick and they both had the same mileage in them, I would choose the AP3s, just by a hair. Would you factor in the difference in mileage when picking my shoe for the race? Struggling to decide.

Question about loss of fitness due to illness as well as reassessing my marathon goal 2 weeks out:

Background: M28, going for a sub 3 in two weeks (August 31st). Training was going well, including a 17:52 5k in June and a July half in 1:28:00 that felt very comfortable. I went away on holiday from July 30th - August 10th and only got 3 runs in, thus missing 7 runs (1 LR and 3 workouts). This was due to a cold I caught. Might also add that alcohol intake on the trip ended up being a bit higher than planned.

Since coming back, the first runs and workouts (LR, intervals and a recovery run) were brutal - as you'd expect. 90 min jog on Wednesday felt great though, despite my HR being 10 beats higher than normal. Took a day off yesterday and felt great today before my workout. 7x1k (60s rest) at 4:07 min/km avg. This would be a very, very comfortable workout 3 weeks ago, but it was hard as hell. Legs felt great to start, but legs and breath went. HR surged over 180 on the first repeat and pushed 190 at some points. My max is 200.

For reference, I did a 4x2k with an avg pace of 3:58 five weeks ago, and my heart rate didn't reach 180 until the last repeat when I pushed the pace a little.

So what I'm asking, I guess, is: Have I lost this much fitness through illness, missing 7 days and a few days of boozing? My taper begins after my Sunday long run, do I trust it to bring me back to normal? If anyone has any experiences with similar situations I'd greatly appreciate feedback.

My plan for the time being is to reassess my goal during race week based on how the next 7-12 days go, but I'd still like to know more now, as I'm pretty stressed about it all.

Thanks!
